Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lab feeling sorry for himself

Hi All ,
Have a 2 yr old Black Lab , who over the last few days has been struggling to go to the toilet properly , every time he goes it seems a watery poo rather than the usual solid , he has woken us up about 2 or 3 in the morning obviously in distress needing the toilet but then same again hardly anything coming out but what does come out is very runny
Today he has ignored his food and just wandering about feeling sorry for himself , seems to walk for a while then just sits down looking blankly around him
The Vets is of course our next action but just wandered if it is worth giving him another 24hrs or so?

Any advice more than welcome and thanks in advance

Sounds like he may have a blockage.....has he eaten something he shouldn't have lately like a sock or bit of a ball etc? I would get him to Vet sooner rather than later just in case it is this as the longer this is left the worse it is, believe me I have had this twice within the last year!!

I wouldn't wait any longer; something is clearly wrong.

Not fair to the dog.  I never believe in "wait and see."

Having eaten, but not toileted, certainly sounds like a blockage.  Bet you're worried sick having to wait all day.

Could they not get you in on an emergency?

I would be tempted not to feed any more untill seen by the vet. It is very possibly a blockage and if they need to operate it would be best on an empty stomach. I would offer water in small amounts but no solid food till you have seem the vet. If it is a blockage he will just be making things worse by eating at this moment.
Good luck I hope he is Ok. As someone suggested try to get an emergency appointment, it is not a routine visit and needs to be seen as soon as possible.

Thank you all so much for your advice and concerns , Zak was seen by the Vets last night , and he is fairly confident there is no blockage but he did have a high temperature , was given some injections and also given some tablets to help bring it down , Vet seems to think it could be some kind of virus or infection
Seemed a lot chirpier this morning and ate all his food like there was no tomorrow ( like as normal :) )
Still no good clear out ( best way I can put it ) but the Vet did say that could take a couple of days
Any more problems he advised us to go back and he will x-ray , but hopefully wont come to that

Once again thanks for all the advice and concerns
