FEJA decided to bite the back of the leg of a donkey yesterday, its ankles. SHe has shown interest in the back legs of cows also. Does anyone else have a groenendael that does this kind of herding behaviour ? i add...i was nervous...she is 3.5 months old...not ready even for SHEEP !!

I posted this question on the breed special forum in Poland just now...but having read some dogs here have livestock chasing issues...not that this was CHASING...it was BITING ANKLES i add ! i treat you to the latest precocious behaviour of a 3.5 month old Belgian puppy !!! i did have a moment again of heart in mouth ! donkey did not kick back i add ! probably too amazed herself ...she is on heat...that such a small thing would do that to her !!

whoops sorry, BLACK FAIRY is FEJA...that is her Lithuanian name...

earlier i caught her out with a kitten of 3 weeks old in her jaws. she had been quiet a few minutes so i took a look undre the table...kitten unhurt...walked out not even a miouw...but i had said...what is she chewing now ? how amazing...not a scratch on the kitten ! and she plays so hard with the 7 month old kitten !

i will read answers at lunchtime i think...the rattling of plastic bottles at my feet means ? WALKIES needed ! LOL !!

Not surprising at all :) My Australian Shepherd started nipping the backs of the legs of human visitors to our house younger than that :( :)

well that breed is supposed to be the NEXT most intelligent dog on planet to border colleys of course...got missed of in favour of POODLES in official listings on web i saw...not commonly known...GETTING POPULAR in frogland i add ! have 2 of them at pup classes...dashed PLONK into filthy pond we ere told to keep the dogs away from i add !!! LOL !!! soaked dogs leapt everywhere all happy over us after that !!! LOL !! no need for yves st laurent clothes at pup classes in France hey !

met a man in area of he said loads borders here in france at motorway services last night...he said they get easily bored and lick stones if nothing to do the borders...need activity...or...as i started thinking...DOG SLEEPING PILLS ? sigh....oh ok that is a silly comment of mine...one gets DESPERATE sometimes hey !

my pup is woofing now in her sleep...sigh...obviously an ACTIVE SLEEP !!! LOL !!

Hi, this is a good site to look at for various things including chasing behaviour, which she is very likely to develop :)

It's very important to guide her to chase the right target early on.

She is typical Belgian, up to great mischief, trying things out  - hope you have a sense of humour LOL!! :)

LOL !!! after the JAW DROPPING moment yet again when i MISSED taking a camera shot of the bite of a donkey's ankle...the one before i missed was the RIVER GARONNE swim moment !!!...i did laugh ! to think such a pup could take on a donkey !!! LOL !!

have that webpage link open now...about to read...she is into ? BIRD chasing right now !!! hilarious !!! she sees pigeons up in the sky...looks up...and charges off after them !!! head looking up !!! not looking whre she is going and flops into a ditch of water !!!! that was HILARIOUS !

i add...she may have thought...nana..me...has banned her from chasing cats, chickens, cows, ducks, people that jog...all successfully...so ? BIRDS IN THE SKY !!! are still an option !!! HILARIOUS !!!

this is just before she did it...rushed up to this female on heat donkey !!!

she was mistaken for a CHOW CHOW by a chap in the flat block here this morning...sigh...asked if she had a BLUE TONGUE...ooh i did have one and REMEMBERED WHY ! apart from it being a COUCH POTATO type dog...he DID NOT BARK !!! OH SI ! now i remember why !!! LOL !! i had POODLES because they don't lose their hair and are very clever...and a CHOW because it doesn't BARK ! oooh...i heard some AWEFUL HIGH PITCHED barks from ADULT belgians recently...a bit jaw dropping...my EARS hurt even ! good job i taught her the word SILENCE ! already ! SCHHHH !!! as we were hunting a lost for 2 months donkey yesterday...we did see it...but left before i was going to go out at night to get it...was teaching her to be quiet when tracking...then ? we SAW it 100 meters from us and it BRAYED and the pup startled !!! LOL !!! never seen her move so fast !!! in the opposite direction for 50 yards !

now i just added the dog chasing link to my legislation and litterature page on site...with an addendum....careful ! herding dogs must NOT be OVER CONTROLLED and kept to heel too much as pups ! or else ? they will NOT HERD ! that is the warning of my breeder to me...not telling me what to do i add...but ? i do NOT Overcontrol my pup non...she cannot walk well to heel on a lead, only off it as i mentioned, due to thinking maybe SHE is taking ME for a walk if lead is on...passons...i put it on for form's sake....

now that reminds me ! SHE IS NEARLY READY FOR A CAR HARNESS OR CRATE !!! yes ! why ? because she now sits quietly and sleeps on passenger seat instead of on my lap ! so she is CALM and more likely to ACCEPT a harness or crate for her safety now !!! ooh this is good...was VERY pleased she actually WALKS UP to my car now when she HATED the WORD CAR iteself even before...associates it with GOING OUT SOMEWHERE NEW and exciting !
