I'm in shock. Driving back from a walk this afternoon saw a badly injured GR on the pavement with a chap kneeling beside it, stopped the car and went back to ask if I could help. 'No thanks, my friend has gone to get the car', I then asked if it had been hit by something, as covered in blood, 'No, it's just jumped out of a third floor window'. How the ****, on a cold, wet afternoon does a dog of that size jump out of a third floor window - forget the weather - why would you have a window open far enough to allow any dog tobe able to get out. I couldn't do anything, so walked back to the car in tears!

Poor dog.I guess some people just don't think about the risks of that sort of thing.
My assistant at work said she has a big sash window in her bedroom but even in all the hot weather we have had lately she said she daren't open it as its so low she's worried her sprocker puppy will jump out of it.

Oh how very sad.  Sounds as if it was injured pretty badly.  I would have been in tears too.

The dog could have jumped through the glass (would also explain why he was covered in blood - due to being cut by broken glass).

My OH recalls the dog his family had when he was a boy, it jumped right through the closed bedroom widow to follow them when they were going out. Amazingly it wasn't seriously injured. I'm not sure what breed it was, but know it was the size of a GR & it was black........

Poor dog, what an awful thing to happen & what a horrible thing to see  :(

A collie of mine once put his head through the bedroom window as we were going out. He was a recent rescue with separation anxiety issues, and we didn't have double glazing at the time. Amazingly there was not a mark on him, we think the net curtains saved him - and the lack of brains!

My 4 year old cocker spaniel Alfie can open my windows. There are 2 handles on them. He begins with the top one and then the bottom handle. Pushes out the window and off he goes!! Thankfully the upstairs ones are too high for him to access but in the sitting room, he uses the couch as an access route:-) and does it if I go outside without him. Honestly now!!

Ugh, how awful. I'm so careful about the upstairs window because it opens wide enough for Vic to fall out of. I never leave it open if they aren't supervised because there are just too many things that go up the lane, like sheep and cats, that would be tempting enough for one of them to jump out at, then I'd have broken dogs.
