Topic Dog Boards / Health / I've found another lump on Fern!
- By Cani1 [gb] Date 28.05.10 12:13 UTC
I've had a post running about my DDB Fern who had a large mammary tumour removed , she then went on to have complications with her vulva and left back leg swelling to six times the size. Well the swelling has gone down now , theres just swelling around the scar where she had the tumour removed. To treat this she is on antibiotics , diretics and bathing with epsom salts 3/4 times a day.

However last night when she was getting cuddled by my husband he found another lump! This time on her neck , I don't know how I haven't felt it , I know it wasn't there on Wednesday when the vet gave her a full check over.
I have just lost what hope I had in her recovering. I am now lost , I am hoping it's just a reaction to having the lymph nodes removed with her surgery , but deep down I have a bad feeling about it all. I hope I'm wrong , as I love her so much.
I'm off to the vets later with my small utility breed for a scan , so I'm going to mention it then as they all know Fern at the surgery , seeing as we've been virtually living there the last few weeks.

Please do not panic it could be the site of an injection or where the vet placed a drip.

Yes it could be a reaction to a long standing anti-biotic that she may have had.  Sometimes they dont come up for a few days and they can stay for a  good few weeks after the jab.  x

I don't think she's had an anti-biotic jab . I haven't paid for any , I've only been given them in tablet form.
The lump is on the side of her neck.

It's usually routine to give an antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory jab when they've had surgery, before they come round from the anaesthetic.

Thank you I'll keep that in mind and ask the vet what they think when I go very shortly.

Good luck! Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.

Did the vet send the other lump off for histology?

Hope the vet has an explanation for the new lump, although mammary tumours do return in some animals it is usually some years and in other they live to a lump free old age. If your vet had the tissue tested (hope they did) they will let you know how aggressive it was and you will be keeping a check from now on.

GOOD LUCK - EVERYTHING CROSSED

My regular vet , the one who removed the tumour is on holiday , Mr Prescott the head vet has been seeing to Fern since and he doesn't know what has happened to the lump. He is waiting for my vet to return from holiday to speak with her.
Today the lump in her neck has changed shape it is more visable to the eye , however feels flatter than it was although a little wider. I'm hoping and praying it is a bruise site.
