Topic Dog Boards / General / when is my bitch meant to have a season
- By muzzavilla [gb] Date 27.05.10 21:44 UTC
Hi i'm a new dog owner and i recused my bitch Roxy from a dogs home - they could not tell if she had been spayed or not (no real visible scar) she is approx 2 years old and we have had her 8months, and she has not had a season, when is she meant to have had season ....would she have had one by now if she wasn't spayed??

thanks
Louisa

Probably. The average time between seasons for the average bitch is 6 months - but very few bitches are average! My girls used to have seasons every 8 months or thereabouts, so if she hasn't been in season when you've had hr a year then she's probably been spayed.

In a word, no! There is no outward difference between a spayed bitch and an entire one.

In my experience as I spay all my older girls after they have had their last litter that the vulva shrinks down to prepubescent size, not the normal between season size.

So if she has tiny girlie bits she may well be spayed.
