My bitch has missed on her 2 previous seasons, both time she has stood happily to be mated at around 11 and 13 days, although I did not blood test her my male confirmed that she was ready, and the stud dog was very convinced too.

This time I am using a different stud dog, incase the pairing just was not working and as he is much further away, (4.5hrs) I have decided to use idexx to help me get her timings correct. Her first test was on day 8, and got the result today of not yet ovulated and 1.2.  This has scared me a little, as it seems very low.  Sadly it was  message on the answer phone although Larry has said he will call later to explain the result.

Is this level usual for day 8, is she a long way off ovulation or never going to ovulate (cry).

Can anyone advise or put my mind at rest?  Also bearing in mind the bank holiday weekend when should  do the next test?

Thanks in advance,

Jac :)

Yes that's still low, Ellie was something in the high teens or low 20s when they said she'd ovulated (you'd think I would remember, it was only 5 weeks ago!). It does rise very quickly once they get close.

On the season before this last one, my bitch was low too when we tested her on day 10 but it crept up slowly but she didnt reach the 8 peak required for ovulation until day 19. It was right though because she was mated on this last season on day 18 and 20 and she had pups on the right day from the second mating.

Could just be she is a late ovulator so don't give up hope yet!  :)

They are all different, your girl might just be late ovulator and maybe this is why she missed previously?

We were in the same situation as you are, bank holidays so tested our girl on
Friday, day 6 result 1.7(tested just to make sure she is not very early ovulator so we will not miss it testing after bank hols)
Tuesday, day 10 result 12.6
Larry said to mate on Thursday and Friday but our stud was not available on Friday...

My girl was right little Miss Floozy on Wednesday (even though in theory it might have been little early) so we let them try...
On Thursday we got a specialist to do vaginal cell cytology(sp?) just to check and that showed she had ovulated.
We had a slip mating on Wednesday and very nice tie on Thursday :).
Ultra next week, iiik!!

Thanks for the input everyone. She has always been a really flirty madame by now in past seasons, so I guess she is keeping me on my toes this time lol. She just had her first little flirt this evening, so I shall test her tomorrow to see if her levels are starting to rise a little and if needs be again on Tuesday.

Fingers crossed for those of you expecting pups, or awaiting scans :)  Will keep you all updated on our progress.

I would save my money and test after Bank Holiday.

As a rule, increase level by 50% per day - so I don't think she'll be ready until day 15/16.  Later ovulation does seem to be the norm these days.

One of my bitches is decidedly awkward.   She has always had seasons every four months so after two failed attempts (mated successfully both times but no puppies) I too went to blood tests.  It turns out that she is an extremely early ovulator.  First litter mated on days 8 and 9 (puppies born six days early to first mating) and second litter she mated days 5 and 6 (puppies born 2 days early from first mating).  Although this time we had other problems, thankfully with a happy ending, but that's another story.

I really wouldn't panic at all. My bitch on a similar day wasn't even as high as that!! Don't think it had even reached the 1 if I remember right.

She didn't ovulate until very late, (day 19/20) Still had pups.

Just a quick update.

We took her on Monday, as my male was desperate to get to her and was howling and not eating. We think it was just a shade early.  Tues (day 14) eve we had a very easy mating and 15 min tie, and this morning another succesful tie of 10 mins.

Fingers crossed.
