Hubby and I have just got back from a walk with the pooches and our 17 week old puppy managed to run through a patch of nettles and squeaked when he did so and spun round looking at his legs. He has eaten his tea fine but is quite restless. He keeps getting up and moving to a different spot and lying down for a few minutes and then gets up and moves again. I have checked all over his legs and between pads and toes and there is nothing there although he has had a couple of nibbles of one of his feet.
I'm just wondering if I would be able to give him a piriton tablet as I know one of my older ones used to have them from the vets years ago. Puppy is a 17 week old large breed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What about calamine lotion or candula cream?
Really wary about piriton especially in such a young pup, would be really careful with dosage.

I'd ring a Vet and ask what dosage to give such a young pup Piriton too. Maybe they do a childs one that might be better but I would find out for sure first.

Hope he is ok though.

I once returned from a walk and one of my dogs was beside himself with itchy paws (I later tracked this to a bed of nettles although I have no idea why this caused such an extreme reaction).

I stood him in a bath of cool water for 10 minutes and this seemed to do the trick :)

With such a young put do be careful what you use and phone the vet - I don't think the nettles would cause any harm just discomfort and maybe ice cubes or yoghurt would soothe him?  For some reason my dogs always run into nettles and prefer them to cock their legs, they never seem to get stung though!

I stood him in the dogs paddling pool for a few minutes and then put a smear of sudocrem between his toes and he had a good sleep and has been fine since. Aww bless him it must have been so confusing for him!!!!
