sigh.. now just got wary...was told to get a crate by breeder...then i heard here about harnesses...then i started looking on internet for one other than the uselss shop here in France...i want to be sure it is approved...and...i really do not know if it is ok to put this site here or not...it hink so...because it is about safety of harnesses or crates...and blow me i need to know ! what is REALLY the best thing ??? in my old dog days no such things were used of course...dogs were loose in cars...as they are mostly hree in France still...nver heard talk of a harness from anyone here...not that i talk to MANY people i add...but...i want one..something to protect my pup dog on long trips ahead.

personally id opt for a crate. how uncomfy must it be to be restricted and harnessed in for a long journey? :(

Go for a crate--there are excellent ones out there, I have a Barjo crate for my dogs and I'm sure it will outlast the car and probably me :). It was expensive but worth every penny.
>how uncomfy must it be to be restricted and harnessed in for a long journey?
That's exactly what people said when the seatbelt law came in. It's amazing how quickly it became the norm.

bloodhound champs !!! OOH !! the best SCENT DOGS ON THE PLANET !! i need to learn..so that my PUP can learn from these dogs...she LOVES sniffing the ground for AGES and is FOCUSED on scenting...but i have no examples for her to copy...other than cat and an english setter duck hunter dog...ooh bloodhounds...the most FOCUSED ON SCENT tracking dogs..what I WANT MY DOG TO LEARN !!! to TRACK LOST PEOPLE !!! and other things...like MUSHROOMS !! AND TRUFFLES !!! i have bookmaked the site...will READ AVIDLY...must learn how to teach to track ! a BELGIAN can learn !
crates..harnesses...sigh...ONE objection I HAVE to a CRATE is SIZE and SPACE it takes in my car for travels that involved MUCH LUGGAGE of MINE ! the advice to get one from breeders i IGNORED on that count see...and it was to HELP NOT PUT DOWN MY DOG by police if i had accident they suggested it..police are afraid of biting dogs issue in France...passons...
my dog does NOT NEED a "home" feeling like that...she is happy with a rug...me...another reason breeders said to get one...and for night times to stop her weeing in house in the night
so safety is the issue in the car ! sigh. a harness could be restrictive for sure on a LONG JOURNEY...she needs to be able to GET UP SIT AND LIE DOWN TURN....sigh...but it would be PRACTICAL to my mind...very practical indeed....
>she needs to be able to GET UP SIT AND LIE DOWN TURN....
With a correctly fitted harness she'll be able to do all those things. She just won't be thrown about if you have to brake suddenly or (God forbid) have an accident.

RECOMENDATIONS WITHOUT COMEBACK FROM ME IF THE THING I CHOOSE AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT DOES NOT SAVE PUP LIFE !!! i do not have accidents i add...as they say...SAW PLENTY IN REAR VIEW MIRROR THOUGH !!! I was not interested in hearing the LATIN YELLS AND RANTS i would have got i add...my EARS are SENSITIVE ! and my car had a GB sticker on..GRANDE BOURRIQUE that stands for...GREAT ASS ! meaning DONKEY for ass i add in case anyone HERE gets over sensitive over misused words LOL !!! ooh i am in a good mood...just back from a man who said my pup had poohed yesterday at the bar...i said oh ? i did not see that ! i watch her like a hawk ! why did you not say somthing to me ? he said i had GONE before they could do that...funny that...i take AGES to WALK on...and ALWAYS stop at the grocer for ages just 20 meters from that bar to buy food ! have to wait ages til they come out when finished with inside customers...i said i accept the criticism when he said it was not important...i said SI it is important this...SPEAK to me next time if i do not see it ! ...i have my doubts i must say...that he was telling the truth...and he was quite aware of that without me saying so in so many words...i watch my pup and talk to HER constantly at bars like that...take my cups in..empty ashtray...all that good stuff others do not do...he was just MIFFED at me being out with pup i think...may have read my criticisms and pictures of pooh on local streets on my website...i think i am getting known around here now....GOOD !
my pup,,,does not pooh directly where i am...she looks to go elsewhere...outside of the flat or on a mat..and there are NO MATS outside that bar...and she does not pooh often...is quite regular for that...and i SEE her searching...she takes ages if about to pooh...she did not do it. i said he might have mistaken the DRIED BEEF strips for pooh if she had moved one i did nto pick up as we left...but i search for those before moving on too...forget it...i analyse to make sure ..and will watch out...if this kicks off again ? they need EVIDENCE i say...like ? the POOH ITSELF for DNA TESTING !! LOL !!! ooh i am serious ! i would NOT LEAVE POOH ON THE STREET OR OUTSIDE A BAR !
A crate might be better if she starts chewing through boredom on a long journey.
Jake covers 1,000's of miles with Colin from site to site and he wears a harness, he can sit, lay and they "talk" to each other continually.
We crate the dogs in the back when they are dirty, anywhen else seat belt in the back seat. No problems here, thats a BC & CS.

those crates ? about 500 GBP rounded ? are HORRIBLE..just looked at them...and anohter thought hit me...HEAT ! and SUMMERTIME IN FRANCE HEAT of 40 degrees celcius and maybe MORE this summer as the farmers in the north are losing crops due to drought already i heard yesterday from southern farmer here with own well and water supply herself...inside another BOX inside a HOT CAR ? HEAT is an issue with CRATES ! nope..NON to a crate for me...and I COULD NOT FIT MY BIKE in the car with a huge thing when adult like that ! MOI ! i matter ! my things ! as well as PUP being able to LOOK OUTTA WINDOW on a boring car trip ! maybe good for dogs that like being in a home type space of their own like that....not my pup though. thx anyway...helped enforce my HARNESS obsession !!! LOL !
Why would a crate get any hotter than just being sat in the back seat? If the dog is in a crate you can have the windows open so its nice and cool without the worry of the pup sticking his head out of the window.

My preference is for the dogs to travel in the boot. We travel a lot with the dogs, and the kids, so we don't have room in the car anyway. We bought our last 3 cars specifically to give all of us the best room and I use a roof box for spare luggage.
I started with a smallish crate when the 2nd dog was a puppy to help stabilise him - it helped stop his travel sickness too. As he grew I used a bigger crate with a divider but now both dogs travel together. I have a guard to stop them climbing over the seat, or being thrown forward in an accident, and we have a tailgate/guard to stop them from getting out of the boot til we are ready. It also means I can open the boot for more air circulation if I have to stop in hot weather - I wouldn't leave them long but I do this whilst filling up with petrol in the hottest weather. The gate is padlocked
One of my boys likes to sleep upside down in the boot and they both stretch out

I would opt for a car crate (custom made if budget allows) you can leave your dog in the crate if you go to a show with ventilation as the boot is up (NEVER ON A HOT DAY THO). If you ever get another dog you can accomodate it in the same crate with a divider if required. If you opt for the harness you will need to change it as the pup grows. I doubt many would sit nicely in a harness at a young age either but have never used one so thats up for debate.
my pup will want to be near me...and...i have NO other humans to carry in the car...ouch...she is awake and biting my inner legs...ouch...excuse me...walkies time...

Mine are mainly in crates but they do at times travel in harness and they love that too. A correctly made one is very comfy and the dogs are able to move around fairly freely, of course there are some restrictions but they can sit, stand, lie down as they want.

Be carefull that you are not letting her get too dependent on you, it is wise to let your dog get used to not being attached to your hip at all times.
barking mad...it is a TELEPATHY training for me and pup...we are close...because i need a KINDRED SPIRIT and I reply to her need for that too...EXCEPT I WISH I COULD BITE HER AS HARD AS SHE BITES ME !!!! but my TEETH are NOT THAT POINTED !!! and my JAWS not that STRONG ! lol...

Carry a tug toy in your pocket and every time she starts biting you, replace your skin with the toy!

I am close to my dogs too, but they are happy to be either with the other dogs, with me or alone. If you ever have to leave your dog for any reason, holidays, hospital?? How would she manage. You should consider all eventualities. I am leaving this thread now so - good luck with whatever you do.
ms temeraire...i have tried that for sure...she wants FLESH...ME...but i manage with this toy a bit yes !

LOL ! my skin is in SHREDS on my arms...people in the heat of now in France SEE the scratches etc on the arms and just must think...DANGEROUS DOG ! oooh...she is RESTING..just had 15 minutes hard at it back from WALKIES to farm where she behaved...was totally focused on ME not a CHICKEN or CHILD or ANYONE could distract her from ME AND HER BALL today.
child was very young a grandson of farmer who is afraid of CHICKENS even...anything that moves...so ? dog seemed to SENSE it and kept away from him ! amazing telepathy dogs have...she LOVES kids and goes to them first off if seen normally...the sibling she is fine with...

not what i want barking mad. have my reasons. and she will be fine. i have a sister who would take her if needed if i were incapacitated. we want different things from our dogs. i need her FOCUS...for other things she has to achieve that will be of great use to people in the future. she will be happy is all i want for her if not up to it i add. as i am. thx for your help though...and in afew moments...will have pic of the latest state of the art of my flesh...worth having a peek i suggest...not putting THIS on my pup website ! would TERRIFy people and put them off this SHEPHERD BITE INNER LEGS ETC NIP BREED INSTINCT she obviously has a GREAT DEAL OF INSTINCT for i say !

Please don't risk letting your pup off lead on pavements, especially very narrow ones like that. Something across the road could easily catch the pups eye and cause her to run across the road at the wrong time. Here in the UK it's actually illegal to have a dog off on a public highway, not sure what the law in France is?

the VET said...the breeders did not let the mother teach BITE INHIBITION ! i said this to breeders...and i admit..the website pics and videos all 23 of them are NOT with mother playing but a 6 month old new bitch pup they have...but...the bitch is a NICE DOG i saw her...not vicious...and cared for her pups...just ran out of milk from start had not much and so pups were bottle fed a great deall...so ? maybe why so human attached i say...
oh tigger..i did think today...about that picture...whoops..that is EVIDENCE of dogs not on leads in town ! and involves my COUSINS dog...am not looking to get her into trouble too ! but ? she has done that in that town FOR YEARS ! and so ? everyone in the 10 000 population small town sees her and her now old dog out without a lead and says nothing...it was a SUNDAY...PAS UN CHAT DANS LES RUES...not a CAT on the streets as the saying goes here..and NO NOT AT CHURCH ! only 12 percent of the 85 percent catholic population do that in France i advise...they were all RESTING on SUNDAY after huge lunches as normal here ! this was in DORDOGNESHIRE after all ! LOL
yes i am told there is the same law in FRAnce...but hey...what laws in France ARE adhered to i ask in reply to that ? no parking ? no noise or lawn mowing on sundays ? to quote just a few ignored LAWS here ! this is NOT A CIVIC MINDED OBEY LAWS CULTURE !
now i have made myself SO PUBLIC on my website and emails to local authorities...that i will now BE CAREFUL to have pup dog on lead yes...TO PROTECT MYSELF from being the TARGET to enforce laws that OTHERS more silent and less critical of public bad behaviour are allowed to get away with...so do not worry...that is what BLACK FAIRY is about...SETTING AN EXAMPLE...so i will nto let her down.
do you know...today...as we walked in the complex of the flats here to the road...FAIRY held her lead all the time in her mouth...and i have to be careful now...if a photo were taken of her in the golf by someone else without a lead ? evidence...and on the streets too...i am now OUT IN THE OPEN...and there are some mighty annoyed with me people around here i assure you...for TELLING THE TRUTH and TELLING IT AS IT IS !
if my pup sensed it today with her action ? i sensed it with some reactions to me out today from strangers...and i am not paranoid...people do not like the truth...
the MAIN thing i must be CAREFUL OF ?? provocation of my pup by strangers wanting to make a complaint that she is DANGEROUS ! that would be the EASIEST thing to hit me with...so ? i will NOT ALLOW ANY PROVOCATION in PLAY or otherwise of her...and be AT HER SIDE if any child is near her...kids PROVOKE sometimes...are TOLD to in fact...so i am wary now. so far ? nothing a problem...but now ? i have made criticisms...of dog pooh on the streetss...vicious dogs off leads in public local parc....dog pooh in my own complex doorstep....so ? anything i do that i can be got for...OFF LEAD comment made by people not bothered by pooh on doorstep FOR EXAMPLE that i RANTED about on my website saying PRIORITIES ! and my pup was NOT ANNOYING them ! etc...is now ON TARGET !
LOL !! don't worry...PUP accepts her lead...SHE DOES NOT NEED IT i add..but she will wear it OUT IN CITY CENTRE TONIGHT !! the PINK CITY TOULOUSE !! LA VILLE ROSE !!! is not all roses behind the scenes !!! LOL !!! it smells not of roses in town..but DOG POOH !!! LOL !!! not my pups either !

at times like this ? subjected to not the smell of ROSES but the CLOSENESS of my pup to me ? i yes think..how NICE it would be if she would POOP OFF IN ANOTHER ROOM !! NOT AT MY FEET WITH SMELL WAFTING UP TO ME !! LOL !! off out now...ian smith vp airbus finance a380 has arrived to take us into town...so no danger or bad driving !! LOL !!!
as I DO NTO AHVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ORDERING A HARNESS YET !!! LOL !!! am not buying it from that USELESS shop that conned me and didn't know what they were advising i add even if they have some !

I own 2 German Shepherds and a Rottweiler, neither of them have or ever be allowed to bite my legs or any other part of mine or anyone elses body. Why do you allow this, at what age are you going to tell her its not acceptable? As for Focus, all my dogs have done competitive obedience, working trials, agility and flyball and are very happy relaxed dogs - focus is needed and is achieved but I do things different to you. I would not say we want different things from our dogs but I would say we are very different in our views and how to achieve it.
I was going to end my input into this thread but really felt the need to respond to your reply.

I do agree, I think Black Fairy is a very toy motivated puppy which is great, and needs to be properly channelled.
Look for toys like these - buy several and keep one with you at all times:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41PvPcge9EL._SL500_AA300_.jpghttp://www.more4dogs.co.uk/acatalog/rope.jpgThe latter can be bought for as little as £1 in Pound Shops in the UK.
Every time she starts on you just shove one of these in her mouth and have a little game, or throw it for her to retrieve, or let her play with it on her own for a little while. With luck, you will end up with a dog who is VERY happy to do anything for you, just to have a tuggy game afterwards, a trainer's dream really.
I am no training expert BUT swapping my skin for a toy worked very well... every time he started to get too full-on I shoved a toy in his mouth instead and had a tug game, teaching him what he CAN bite. I now have an adult dog who when he wants to play, will run off and get a toy instead of trying to bite, nip or pull clothing. It took a little time, but it's the way to teach what she is and isn't allowed to use her teeth on!

This is exactly how I get my pups off mouthing skin, from word go, soft rope tuggy into their mouth and encourage play. If they wont take the toy, its a few minutes behind the gate until they have calmed down and we start again. Its very hard to explain to a pup/dog that mouthing anyone is allowed now but not later and not on anyone else. My dogs take toys to everyone who comes to visit and when we get home, they all have something in their mouths, very sweet!

> This is exactly how I get my pups off mouthing skin, from word go, soft rope tuggy into their mouth and encourage play.
I'm sure that's the only way to achieve it, really. Divert attention on what you want the pup to do. It takes a while but they DO pick it up in time, quite quickly on one level - it takes longer for it to become an ingrained habit all the time.
Meantime, you have to be careful - I was in the middle of a field with mine one day and while holding a tennis ball he jumped up a bit too enthusiatically to snatch it and his puppy-needle-teeth sank deep into my wrist - 2mm away from a vein!!

I had nightmares afterwards imagining fainting in a field slowly bleeding to death! Tuggies, not balls, are the way to go if you have a confirmed play-nipper!
>The latter can be bought for as little as £1 in Pound Shops in the UK
>This is exactly how I get my pups off mouthing skin, from word go, soft rope tuggy into their mouth
BF - If you cannot get a rope toy try a knotted tea towel instead (in French? not sure). You'll need to knot it a few times. I prefer this option, as my dog would manage to pull the threads from a rope toy without even trying, and get them tangled in his teeth. A friend of mine wets a knotted tea towel and freezes it for her pup as a soother for teething.
There are plenty of things you can use to distract a puppy from biting and mouthing. Nipping and nibbling isn't so amusing in an adult dog.
i reply to barking mad first...just in from the city..pics to be done in next 15 minutes on my website...was an amazingly successful trip...right into teh center of the city...walked on lead...sat outside a cafee...the pup was showing off...but stuck close to me the entire time...was SNIFFING along head to ground the entire 10 minutes to a square...it was filthy...bins out...all sorts...the usual stuff you will see on pics if you want...but what i was pleased about the most ? other than not bothering anyone...in front of a HUGE GUARD dog...german shepherd barking through the glass door of a shop that was shut...BLACK FAIRY just STARED at it...did not flinch...then ? must have calculated it was behind a glass door...she PUT HER NOSE RIGHT UP TO THE OTHER DOG'S NOSE on the glass !!! LOL! i have a photo of it ! i could not believe it ! no fear ! but CALCULATED first before approaching...it was like she was making fun of the guard dog !!! he was well chewed off about this i can tell you ! but could do NOTHING ABOUT IT !...ooh...several dogs OFF LEADS...tramps...asking for fags, money...common sight here...i saw a lovely dog in the SPA actually before i got fairy..the calmest dog there...a woman who wanted him told me his owner had died drugs overdose...so the dog was taken to stray dogs home...looked very miserable poor dog...just sat with head hanging down...woman could not have him as no garden...strict rules at stray dogs place...99 percent were beauceron howling barking vicious looking dogs i add...i don';t like that breed anyhows...a few pups...and the only german shepherd was ex gard dog that was ALONE he was so wild and unapproachable...had been given in by owner unable to deal with him for hols...
what was i going to say ? ah ...i have PLANS for Fairy, as utility dog, so for that reason, she must learn to only obey me...and i need to train her to be separate from me...my friend here said look here you can't even go with me to the spa swim center now until you teach that dog to stay without you !
so. ja. dunno how to achieve it. have left it a bit late. she already goes AWOL with noise and rage if i shut a DOOR on her in the flat here !
it is very dangerous for a dog here to accept food off strangers...people steal dogs...it is just different here...and there are other reasons.
now...the biting thing...started up as soon as i got her...her brother did it the owners said and got smacked and stopped...i did not smack...i have never had a dog that did this to me before...and i had several ! so i was puzzled as to WHY ! she likes toys...wow..in the CITY ? she FETCHED HER BALL continuously...ignoring MOtOrbikes rushing around...crowds of people...nothing distracts her...i like that...i can USE that focus...that is the focus i need from her...and SHE WAS SO HAPPY ! even made NO NOISE OF COMPLAINT in the car trip !
I have to agree with most people on here-crates are far safer and far more comfortable for the dog than harnesses.
> it is very dangerous for a dog here to accept food off strangers...people steal dogs...it is just different here...and there are other reasons.
It is the same here - people steal dogs all the time, from outside shops or from people's gardens, or even from their car. Sometimes the dogs are resold, or end up used for bad breeding - sometimes they are used for bait for dog fighting, or dumped and left to roam. On occasion, people have stolen dogs then demand ransom from the owners. They can also be stolen from parks and countryside areas; or be tormented or attacked by teenagers. Even Guide dogs have been attacked by humans and other dogs.
There are times when it is best to leave your dog safely indoors at home under lock & key. The world is not a nice place any longer.
yes she LIKES the rope on the wheel thing i bought at the shop...and i need to keep swapping toys...the tennis ball she adores...but then looks to BITE something and TUG OF WAR game play...she ADORES that...i managed quite well with STOP word and holding back the ball...it is only when she is FOCUSED ONLY on biting ME that it does not work !! LOL !!! i do laugh...but IT IS NO LAUGHING MATTER to see my skin !! and i cannot let her carry on SO HARD PLAYING ! sigh. she AIMS at SENSITIVE PARTS of my body too ! she knows EXACTLY where she is aiming...soft skin...inner legs...chest...PULLS my head tie off too again tonight IN THE CITY !! and LAY on it...with her ball and my bag when it was clear we were heading back to the car...
just now ? had a break as she KAMIKAZE rushed into study leapt all four paws off teh ground at me and insisted i go outside...sigh...
what happened there ? is TYPICAL of the problem i call it...the KITTEN wants to play...the pup gets FRUSTRATED as it is OUTTA REACH due to her THROTTLING of it if she gets hold of it when hyper...when calm ? is fine ! does not bite or do that to him at all ! but when in PLAY MODE ? she CANNOT play gently ! so ? she LUNGES at my dress...pulling it madly..furiously...then BITES my arms...i take the ROPE and round tyre thing...throw that..she takes it...tugs of war with it but continuously lets it go to BITE AND GRAB my arm...i say NON! STOP ! pull my dress out of her teeth...throw the rope thing again...she goes for it...so does the kitten...she goes WILD to draw MY attntion to HER awy from kitten ...bites me again...i leave her staring at kitten...she is still out there...so ?
a few more bites...but sucess with a toy yes ! but i can see what she REALLY wants...MY FLESH...and taking her FRUSTRATION of teh kitten unreachable out on me ! that is what she does...he STALKS...from up high...she gets infuriated...rushes to me leaping at me then rushing out of the room again...sigh...
i wish...she would LEARN to play with the kitten without THROTTLING HIM !
she seems to have WHITES OF EYES even madly showing in her rages ! it is a TEMPEST when she gets going !

> crates are far safer
I have to agree. Our are too long to be able to sit comfortably or securely, lying on the back seat they would just roll off if I had to break heavily. So when out localy they stay within the deep boot of the car and if traveling longer distances they travel in their crate.
>she AIMS at SENSITIVE PARTS of my body too ! she knows EXACTLY where she is aiming...soft skin...inner legs...chest...
>leapt all four paws off teh ground at me and insisted i go outside...sigh...
I can't get my head around anyone allowing a puppy to '
insist' they do anything. Who is in charge here? If Fairy doesn't learn that
you are the one who can be trusted to be in charge and keep her safe then she'll be an absolute nightmare when she's bigger and stronger, and from the way she's going she'll put you in hospital.

I have a good voice i add...not that it was appreciated here locally ...was in field and woman came out in her garden to find out what all the noise was about...nice birds singing i said...she feeds them...pup whined with boredom so annoyed woman even more by coodgey cooing to her in middle of a property sale in town speel i was getting...yawn yawn...
well this thread is different!
But anyway - Leo had a crate to begin with and he was sick everytime he was in it, great on his harness but then when he was a bit older i bought an estate car with a big 3 part dog guard with a divider down the middle and he loved it which was much like being in a crate
Currently trying to get the pups used to it and they arent doing too badly - minor poo accident earlier but that was my fault!

well just back in from pup classes...with pup sleeping on my lap...sigh...gardien tried to pull her onto passenger seat for me as we left saying cops might fine me...fat chance...by the time they work out there is NO DRIVER due to being right hand drive car...the fact they see a DOG ...IF her head were showing...in the equivalent in France of passenger seat ? i would be 100 km away !! but...she is twice the size of a month ago...so i need better vision when she does pop her head up and outta window or puts paws on my shoulder for more breeze...i am NOT going back to the shop of last visit..anwhere but there...and if a harness ? can order it and have it by next weekend...can stay outta car til then...reading...thinking to do about this...sigh...then i will have peace ! she resisted strongly his pulling of her by scruff of her neck...no barks...no whines...just pure refusal...sigh...then ? at pup classes...learning to sit ? ooh uh oh...the trainer...her BREEDER i add...put a Light hand on her rump with the titbit he was using to get her to move head back and sit naturally ...and ? she TURNED on him....oooh...what a SHOCK ! he was so surprised he said i needed to go see a specialist to see why her rump is so sensitive ! maybe back or vertebrae probs ! ...i was upset for the rest of the lessons...she ran up things...ran around as normal after than...did walk the planks up and down...fell off even in her excitement...uh oh...luckily i had her lead on and saved her crashing badly on the ground i add...did not land on back...sigh...was told off for not holding her better...went thru tunnels...bottles...everything...then ? at END her BREEDER lady tried to PREVENT her going somewhere...and ? she TURNED ON HER !!! oooh...shock...everyone left looking astonished...afraid even...her brother\s owner there said what a character she has ! that is no sore rump ! that is pure character she is showing ! and the breeders agreed...then breeder lady PICKED HER UP !!! oh no...that went even WORSE ! she SNARLED AND LUNGED TO BITE in a fury ! breeder held her jaws....took ages before she would stop it...
my conclusion ? there is NOTHING physically wrong with spine etc of my pup...i push her bottom down sometimes no prob ! i have never had a reaction to say she is sensitive there with me...what is going on ? is that PUP is REFUSING anyone giving her orders or worse still as i do not push her around or make her feel she is FORCED to do ANYTHING at all with me...she was shocked at being told to do something she did not want to do...titbits or not...and from anyone but me ? will TURN on anyone that tries that ! even her own breeders !!! whta a revelation !
she was VERY annoyed and UPSET at the physical restraints she got from the breeders...but they had to PROTECT themselves ! there was NO lesson learnt there that i could see about NOT DOING THAT EVER AGAIN !
ooh...i am in turmoil shock mode right now...a bit shaken myself...she is sleeping happily...a bit subdued...but was hard at it attacking her brother a lot in classes and did LOADS of the things many times of her own accord...NOT A TITBIT NEEDED to WALK THE PLANK...do the TUNNEL or BOTTLES...i just SAY THE WORDS of them to her ...and she BOLTS into them ! she RAN UP THE PLANK in fact OFF LEAD BY HERSELF to our horror as we were doing other things !!! i did not order her to do that ! she just SAW the planks...and WENT for them...when last week ? she REFUSED to walk up them even !
it is a hard sloping set of walk the planks thing...goes up...then level...then down...she REFUSED WITH PAWS OUT all attemps at her breeder with me last week to move forwards on it...this time ? she only refused the moving carpet...and was the most WARY of the NOISY BANGING done to accustom pups to loud noises...did nto run...but kept her distance...when she came close when called by me ? she sat ON MY LAP...did not please trainer...sign she was not confident...true...but...she does not JUMP or STARTLE at loud sudden noises...just gets WARY...

there was one dog there...a huge st bernard pup..who has the PROTECT AND GROWL at food to other dogs thing...it was MY PUPS WATER DISH ! others drank out of it...my pup makes no fuss about that...but when the st bernard did it...it did not want any other dogs near it...my pup stared up at this huge dog compared to her as it GROWLED with teeth barred...did not move...the b owner told me to TAKE THE DISH out of sigh and my pup away from her dog or there would be trouble..no prob i did that...
i am going to have to speak to trainer/breeder...explain what i think is happening...the pup is a one person take orders from dog...some are...so ? if not even her BREEDERS that she GREETS wildly with enthusiasm still recognising them now can handle giving her orders ? no one else will either...this dog...is not for taking orders from others...and ? has to be handled VERY GENTLY to achieve anything...i do not FORCE her to do ANYTHING...all i achieved to date was without even a slight push...she WANTED to do things...i was PATIENT...did nto DRAG her into the lift...took me a week of waiting for her to get in it...did nto PULL her on the lead when she does not want to come...i wait...sigh...i have been very gentle with her...so she just reacted badly to even the slightest PUSH today...from me ? in play she accepts anything...but she CHOOSES who she will play with to...just REFUSED to play wtih neighbour chap in corridor...she is like that...not barking or aggessive at him...just ignored his requests.
this is a problem...in pup training we were let off the swap dogs on leads walking around bit first lesson...and now ? that is imposssible for my pup...she only understands my handling of her...so ? it has to stay that way...there is just too much push and conflict with other people for her to accept it...i was heavily criticised for spoiling her...told she will turn on me one day if she does not want to do something when older...sigh...i do not think so...but i do not know. she shocked those who saw these actions today. it was astonishing. not surprising trainer thought something physically wrong with her to be so sensitive....

back to the more important issue...her play biting...well it need careful handling now !! LOL ! am not wanting to get into a DISCUSSION like i saw TODAY with her and her trainer/breeders ! i had ONE episode weeks back never again repeated over a dog pooh eating take it off her issue...now ? i can take ALL that off her no such reactions or just say NON actually...have not had to take one out of her mouth since then.
play biting...is a real issue ! i need some sleep...read up book and here again in the morning. i will get there...without slapping her...i don't want to do that...it is not necessary...i just need to get her to understand...sigh...she is so darned clever...she MUST be made to understand what she is doing to my skin !!
this pup...becomes HOSTILE if physically attacked or restrained...when we came in from classes ? she was woofing quietly at every noise she heard and going outside to check things out...she was more HOSTILE to strangers after this afternoon therefore i say....she woofs yes and barks if a person comes to door...which is never of course...only clearners got it wrong address once...barked madly...but tonight she was on edge a bit...to have woofed and checked the place over so much on coming in...

They start agility at such a young age in France? Here dogs aren't allowed until a year old in case the damage their growing bodies & joints. I've not done Pre-agility with a puppy which I know does exist, but I don't think it would be including anything like ramps as it could cause a great deal of physical damage (not to mention mental) if they fell off.
