My thirteen year old sons hayfever seems to be much worse this year. He has been prescribed Benadryl did nothing. He is now on Loratadine with a ventolin inhaler, thats doing nothing to relieve his symptoms either. So we are going back to the doctors later to see if anything else can be done for him. His dad has to have the injection because he also gets it really bad. He has it one day and is cured the next and it lasts the whole season. They do not like to give it due to side effects. Peter has never had any side effects with it. It really is a wonder jab.

I am in my second season of using Nasonex, Rapitil and Clenil. I have suffered with hayfever since 1976, have tried everything POM and over counter and sometimes my symptoms can be very alarming. The least the hayfever has done has been to curtail my life in the summer and at its worst I attend A and E. I am not talking sniffles and itchy eyes here but full blown hayfever. The regime I have worked last year and is so far working this year and I can say that it has changed ny summer life! I also take Telfast 180 tablets but so far this year have not needed them.
Hope this info helps

I suffer badly when there is rape in full flower. Guess what is in the field behind my house this year? And across the road? :-( I take a spoonful of local honey every day. It really helps with the symptoms. The honey you get at the supermarket is not good enough, you need the local plant pollen that local bees can visit. :-p

Touch wood, mine really hasn't kicked in as yet, although I have been a little bit itchy eyed and sneezy the last couple of days. Luckily I don't have asthma, or other breathing problems with it, but when it's bad I can't actually open my eyes in the mornings, as the eyelashes are fused together with "sleep".

I did go to my docs a few years ago to enquire about the injections, they refused on the basis that it didn't work for everyone, and I wouldn't be able to use anything else if it didn't work. As it stands I can't use any tablets as they all make me drowsy, even the non drowsy ones, and as I commute by Motorbike it's not a risk i can take. So i might go back and see what they can do now.

I've found that glasses help (or a crash helmet), so will always wear my sunglasses when I go out at this time of year. Have you tried rubbing some vaseline around his nostrils. Boots were selling something called "HayMax" last year, which was basically a little pot of vaseline type stuff that was supposed to catch the pollen before it got into the nose?

A friend of mine said she saw a programme that recommends boiled nettle water for hayfever and other allergies.  Must admit I haven't tried it yet but should give it a go as I have lots of nettles at bottom of garden.

I used to suffer from terrible hay fever, if we were out in the car I knew when we were near fields of oil seed rape before we could see them!! A few people suggested that I take local honey so we found a local bee keeper, bought a jat of honey (much cheaper than honey from the shops) and although I don't like honey I added a teaspoonful to a mug of strong coffee every day. What a difference it has made! There are fields of rape all around here but I don't have itchy eyes, sore throat or anything this year so far!

He seems to be a little better today doctor has given him Piriton liquid. We have a health food store in Cleckheaton so I will go and get some locally produced honey this afternoon. They stock one from a bee keeer just down the road from where we live so should be good.

Be aware that the honey may take a few days to get into his sysem, but it does work. I've run out this wek and won't be able to get any more until tomorrow. My eyes are starting to itch a bit, and my nose is a bit runny today ;-)
