Our stafforshire bull terrier bitch who is 13 weeks old now is quite bald behind and just slightly above her ears. Having consulted the vet and various others apparently this is quite a common trait with the breed - but all the other staffs I have seen dont seem to have this and I am worried that she will lose her hair completely there. The vet has given us flea treatment and will see her again in a months time. Comments from other staff owners please! Thanks.

Hello Melanie
Most Bull terriers are thin behind the ears/top of the head/and stomach and chest areas. I find with pups (ours is 16 weeks) that the as they grow the fur gets thin then it thickens up, then it gets thin again and so on. Also being only 13 weeks it wont be out and about to much, its coat should just starting to get a bit rougher now as well, and with the cold weather and central heating on the dog wont need a thick coat until it starts getting out a bit more.
So yes it is normal. What colour is your dog. I find that darker colours show the thin coats of these dogs more than the lighter colours. You have already seen the vet so if there was a serious problem Im sure they would have spotted it. (I hope.)
All the best Mick.

Hi Mick, hope you are well. Angel is a very dark brown brindle with white markings so I guess that is the reason that it shows up much more. She has a white chest and I notice that her fur is thin there too because you can see her pink skin through the fur. Our vet told us to come back in a months time and she will review the situation but I am glad to hear that you do think it is normal.
Best wishes, Melanie.
