I feed my dogs a clove of garlic most days to keep fleas at bay and it does prevent them.

However as Claire says it doesn't help to keep ticks away as when we were on holiday in Scotland last year they both had lots of ticks!

I don't give fresh garlic but give garlic tablets from Dorwest Herbs. It is supposed to be an all over tonic as well as keeping fleas at bay. Don't know how good it is but my dogs are very healthy:).

I've found garlic seasoning in a lot of dog treats, and they do seem to like it.  if mine are off food something with garlic in gets their appitite going.

I use garlic in my blended veg for my 3, always have, super smelly and they love it.  Its a natural blood purifier and I havent used flea treatments for ages (apart from when my latest pup came to live with me, I had her done before we picked her up as a 'not to bring any fleas home with her precaution') I only use when I see them and I check them regularly, so I can assume the garlic has a part to play in keeping fleas at bay.

So do I, two or three cloves in approx 1 weeks' worth of veggies for two dogs.  It is a natural blood purifier, and I think the problem with the onion family is that it can thin the blood??  But they have to have eaten it in large proportions for this to happen I understand.  Mine don't have fleas either, I'd notice the difference straight away, with them being chocolate Labradors, their intelligence would have doubled, lol!

How much would you give a 25-30 kilo dog and do you give it whole or chopped? Have you also heard of fennel powder for fleas? Many thanks.

was rerading about human food that you shouldnt give to a dog and saw this......there are many human foods (garlic, onions, raisins, avocados, chocolate) that can potentially cause serious health problems in dogs.

Yes it is often said that garlic is toxic to dogs - and it certainly is in large amounts. Luckily unless your dog manages to eat more than a few whole heads of garlic, that wouldn't be a problem as the amounts we normally use are so small.
