My 2 dogs english bull terrier of 6 years and old tyme bulldog of 1 year had 3 fights yesterday the last 1 ended up with my older girl having a punctured ear two holes in her lower leg and a caught eye :( they have never fought before.
My older girly is neutered pup is not as yet .
I am thinkin this is mostly down to my younger dog trying to assert herself at the moment and the weather was so hot maybe their moods were less tolerant yesterday.
Pup had her 1st season in Jan so should be coming in again soon so maybe she is behaving more aggressively because of the hormones. She will be done 3 months after next season .

Seasons really perpetuate this sort of thing in my experience. Getting her spayed would be a good plan but you have to wait (and live with them while you do) What are they like atm?
If you can mix them I would minimise triggers (rescources, excitment ect) and heap praise on them when together. If they even look like they want to start immediatly rush the worst offender out of the room and isolate her for a little while. You may want to put trailing leads on for this. If they both start equally I would isolate both (needs two people reaaly) when they start. If their is only one perosn present you can simply grab ones lead and remove her leaving the other alone and isolate the one you've removed after you'v separated them.

We had 2 bitches that would argue maybe twice a year but when they did argue it did get ugly, even if they get on after this you will need to keep a very close eye on them never leave them together on their own ever again as it could escalate.
There could be many reasons that they had the fight but many people find bitches fight once they hit sexual maturity and fight for the right to breed.

We always say dogs fight for the right to breed and bitches the right to breath. They will need watching, I have found that dogs have a difference of opinion and forget it in moments but bitches never forget and never miss an opportunity to remove the rival. There are a few animals that may be different and it may change in some breeds but that is my experience.
hi thanks for all the replies:)
I have put into practice all the things i thought would help and avoid conflict and was glad to see you guys suggested the same .
Both are having one on one time with us and supervised together time ,1 walk each in the morning seperately then my oh and i are taking them out together at night.
I have stopped them both coming on the furniture too as that was what started the big fight the older 1 was up on the sofa, grumbled at pup when she wanted to get up too and the pup took aversion. Am now teaching them a better send to bed and a settle.
They are ok at the moment but i know if my older girl makes a challenge the pup definitely will not back down so am just being super on guard and watching their body language toward each other so as to step in before it gets any further.
My older girl has loads of health issues with her skin ,nails ,dodgy knee joint at hindquarters and recently just behaving in a bit of a vacant way at times i don't think dogs could suffer from senility at 6

That sounds like good progress to me. Definatly keep them off the sofa ect as this is the trigger.
Re the oldie what are her eyes like? If she has poor eyesight she might be misreading the others signals leading to a fight.

ooh la la..well i share what my BREEDER recently told me about males with males and females with females dogs...she said male dogs will fight for dominance, females to kill ! HORROR ! she was WARNING me that when we meet dogs as ADULTS in particular my pup being FEMALE should be CAREFUL as females fight more viciously ! ooh...that got me thinking and asking people WHAT SEX is that dog of yours ? before i let them get too close !
