Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Can a pups heartbeat be heard with a stethoscope?

Hi. Just back from checkup with vet. C section on Friday. All good. Vet said pups were mummified, no poison etc, wouldn't have been able to tell size i.e age from xray, also wouldn't be able to hear heartbeat on scope? And could've stayed there and caused her no problems?

So how did he account for all the sickness and diarrhea?

I can hear heartbeats from the 7th week but my husband always gets them first at around six and a half weeks.

Could have stayed there?? Oh my God! I thought the whole idea of xray was to determine age of unborn pups, but if they were mummified I guess they had been dead for some time. This is so sad :(

She did have sickness and diarrhea last time at about the same time, maybe she's just really sensitive when i changed her food to puppy, although we were so gradual we never were actually fully on puppy food, same brand just diff variety. It's the stethoscope question. I accept that the pups died early on now.

A scan is still your easiest bet here as it will SHOW the beating hearts sooner than they can be heard.

When i change vets, that's my main point, i think that if they have a scanner, then other breeders will use them? Therefore more relative and current experience.
