Topic Dog Boards / Health / dropping the ball ???
- By newf3 [gb] Date 23.05.10 09:49 UTC
hi all,
i have a friend with a 5 month old leo pup who's balls havent dropped yet.
You can feel them but they are very high up, and he does have a hanging bit of skin where they should be but my question is how old should males be before they drop correctly.
My three's came down by 3/4 months and also i wondered if there is anything she can do to encourge them down as it were.
I know she wants to take him to the vet but i just wondered if there is anything she can do before she does as the vet's likey to panic ( as they do ).

Leave them totally alone for the next 6 months.  Feeling for them all the time can stop them from coming down LOL!  If they are not down by then would then get him done fairly soon after.

My terrier's didn't drop until he was 6 months old and I know of other dogs who were nearly a year old before they dropped.

Bearing in mind that the dog is a Leo and comments in earlier thread 'spaying at 6 months' nearer 2yrs than 1yr would surely be better.

Was just generalising as I'm no expert.  Didn't say get him done at 12 months but wouldn't wait for a number of years before having a male done if there's a problem like this.
