Here I am again....after 2 scans that showed nothing, but with lots of signs. We've had, so far...sickness, decreased appetite, tired all the time, increased appetite to the point where she'll steal food, clear mucus discharge, I think that was between weeks 4 & 5. More prominent teats, not huge, just pointier. Boobies are definately getting saggy. Just watched my girl clean all over her belly, teats etc & when I looked we have just had white mucus discharge, slightly stringy. We would be approx day 53 from 1st mating, can't remember exactly, without hunting for my diary. Do all phantoms show these signs? Any advice appreciated xx

A phantom can have every sign of pregnancy, even to the point of actual contractions.
(I know, because I once owned a bitch that had them)
If you're still in doubt when it's time for delivery, an x-ray will eliminate the risk of maybe a singleton.
Good luck,
Karen

Thanks Karen. She's a maiden, so we didn't really know what to expect with this one. All we can do is watch & wait....

Just wondered how your girl was doing?  We did have a phantom pregnancy (according to the vet) which resulted in 7 puppies.  The bitch in question was prone to them so we believed the vet.  Currently got another girl going through a phantom, certainly not as seriously but I do feel for her (especially when she regurgitates her food :-( )

Hi Maddog, she's doing ok thanks. She's eating well, sleeping a lot, (that could be down to the heat) has hardly any hair left on her belly & is getting saggier by the day, but no leakage yet. She still has the mucus discharge & vulva still a bit swollen.  Amazing how convincing a phantom pregnancy is :( I'll be glad when it's over :) Thanks for asking xx LG

Not kidding! She's looking a bit bigger round the ribs, but that could be coat. The other 2 have dropped their coats, so are looking slimmer, but Madam is keeping hers, apart from her belly hair. I can even see her little belly button lol. She still has a slim 'waist' though xx

Well I truly know what you are going through. My girl would be due the bank holiday weekend. After taking her to the vets twice to see if she could feel any puppies(I couldn't but she is a maiden large breed bitch and quite muscular as she has been working during the winter/spring months). She had possitive signs.Clear discharge, appetite changes, clingy, mammarily tissue development, enlarge nipples and vulva and on Thursday her milk came in.I was very excited and wanted to tell people on my puppy list some possitive news. The vet scanned her (late I know at 7 weeks)but couldn't see anything. She was weighed 2 weeks previously and had gained about 1kg from the previous post mated weight check but had only gained a few ounces this time though I haven't increased her diet.Disappointed we accepted no puppies and just want to get our girl through this unpleasant experience for her.Her milk is increasing but vet doesn't want to surpress it.
When I have let her out to play with my other same breed woos (her female kennel mate and 2 boys) at the weekend'the boys were all over her. They have been extremely interested in her wee and vulva area throughout her 'experience'but were v,v interested. But my girl was only interested in the boy who mated her. They are now separate again for the time being. Is this normal?I have never experienced a phantom before, just 2 successful whelpings over 18 years ago.
