As above really how much are they usually - went to the vets to get leos ashes today and registered the pups while there for when they come next week and noticed a sign saying national microchip month is June so they are doing them for £19.50 im sure leos was about 40-50

An average seems to be about £25.

All depends on how many are purchased at one time when they buy them in as to how much anyone charges you the client - vets are very expensive compared to other's.
I charge £12.50 per animal but then I only buy in 10 - 20 a time as I do it for fellow breeders when they ask.

Going to get Carmen done on saturday for £3.00!! Usually around £20 around here.
£40 at my vets in north herts. Waiting for a local pet shop who get someone in every few months and they charge £20.
My gets are ridiculously expensive.

I had all of mine microchipped about 2.5 years ago with the biotherm type. Our Vet charged £23 each, although i understand this type is slightly more expensive. We are in south Hampshire.

Having a very tiny breed, I don't like my pups done too early. When I choose which one I'm keeping out of a litter, I take them for jabs, and, if I pay at the same time as jabs, my vet does a special offer. It's £7 instead of around treble that. I don't actually have them put in until the 6 month free puppy health check.

£40 ?!?!! I think id ring around and find a cheaper vet to do it.
Our vet will do it cheaper if you do a litter at a time.
Go with a local groomer as they are all fully trained to chip.
I didn't realise groomers do this, I know of two in this area, may be worth giving them a ring - cheers!
I'm in the NW and my vets charge £23.95 at normal rate and I think it's £18 and a bit on special offers, ie the sceme you refer to. Then there are private implanters who do it at £10.
£32 here (New Forest) with 10% off if being done at the same time as vaccination or neutering. They are the biotherm ones though which i think are great and so do the dogs when they don't have to have a themometer stuck somewhere un mentionable!! LOL

OK, this is new to me, can you explain?!! :-)

Wow, that's impressive!!
my vet is charging £10 at the moment. seems like a really good price to me. shame mine are all done
The biotherm chips read the dogs body temperature when scanned, avoiding the use of thermometers as well as being an identichip.
Thanks lucyandmeg, not come across these before hence my slight puzzlement on mention of a thermometer!! :-)

RSPCA are doing a £3.00 offer near me tomorrow. most of my gang are already done, just have to do Carmen so she'll be going there tomorrow.
I did the training course ,it only took a few hours, and as I was asked to take two dogs to chip with me,it was actually cost effective,as I was then able to do the rest afterwards at cost price,Because I buy minimum orders of 10 chips they cost about £8 each, but the vets get larger quantities much cheaper so they are making big profits.I now chip for grooming clients, cats and dogs, but more important to me ,is that I am able to chip my puppies and include that for free in the puppies price. My name is then recorded on the system,so if any of my puppies new owners cannot be traced for any reason I will be contacted if the dog is ever lost and found, all part of my after sales service. Here in Northants the local dog wardens will house call and chip for £20,they also organise chipping sessions where they charge £12-£15. RSPCA chipping for £3,that is great,I have always thought they could do more non profit making efforts like cost price neutering and chipping I was once told they are a very wealthy charity.

There's another event tomorrow where it's FREE!
My name is then recorded on the system
Ah, that's interesting. I'd been planning to do a chipping course, and then when I worked out costs it didn't really seem cost effective to me (I mainly wanted to do it to chip my own pups - not many litters planned). But I hadn't thought about the aspect that the chip would then be linked to me, that's good, specially as I believe all dogs should be chipped and those chips should be linked to the breeder anyway, but that's an aside. I shall re-look at it. Stupid I know, but I don't want my pups chipped with a chip linked back to the RSPCA, or any other rescue organisation, even though they do it cheaply in my area :-)
I was once told they are a very wealthy charity
Yes, and sadly all that wealth doesn't necessarily get passed down to some of the very poor regional branches!!
Just seen this post can't belive some of the prices.
I charge £15
Peanuts

Sometimes the dog warden in our area has special days where they charge £10 each.

MsTemeraire - can you pm the details of the mobile groomers in Hants that do it for £8.
I have been thinking about buying the scanner and implanter and doing the course but if someone is doing it for £8 it probably isnt cost effective and I might as well use them instead of dong it myself - only have one litter a year but I like to get them microchipped.
Thanks

Have pm'd you :)
