Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Diet recommendations for Urinary Stones in Dalmatian?
- By Hilly [gb] Date 20.05.10 10:39 UTC
Hiya,

Our 4 year old Dalmatian has already had to have a major op for his urinary stones and now he is on Royal Canin Dalmatian feed only it is turing him into a right porker!

He still gets the same amount of exercise and is currently only having 2 small cups a day (less than the feeding guidelines) and he still weighs 36.5 Kilo's.

Does anyone have any other reccomendations of low purine foods that you have tried and tested and that wont make him wider than he is tall?

Any help appreciated!

We use"Specific" veterinary food. The kidney diet is the one we use but it does depend on what type of stones your dog had as to which food you need.  This lowered his PH within two days and hasn't resulted in any weight gain. There is more information available on www.specific-diets.com and we buy from viovet.  If you need any more help just ask.

can you not just reduce how much you are feeding of the royal canin food? If he is putting on weight he is taking in more than he needs so i can't see a problem with reducing his food down furtherto a level to which the energy input matches the energy output.

What about giving some of his food as wet food to help flush him through? and reducing the dry food this will help him feel full still with out as much carbs going in.
