Thankyou oesjay. I shall take it you are right as i presume you are a oes owner.Do you know were i could get any info either off the net or book form about showing oes ? As at the moment i can find nothing at all.

To be honest id just go with whatever you and your dog is comfortable with it, both stacked and free stand is right its down to owners personal choice on how its done.

wow in 20 years of working with dogs at shows Ive never seen one stacked. (ie head and tail held to keep dog in place!) All the ones Ive seen and worked with have been held on a tight lead only, with a hand under the chin once placed in a correct stand.

depends on your  definition of stacked.. all four legs are "placed"   the head and the butt are placed also i have been showing oes for years and currently have four all of whom are put into position they are not allowed to stand of their own free will,, most would just sit down LOL  some people hold the beard also

well without staring a whole new thread on definition of stacked.......Id say stacked was having head and tail held on to ala boxer or spaniel etc.

Stacked - often the head is held ie under the beard - no tail to hold on older dogs and on younger ones you wouldn't want/need to - all four feet are usually placed so the dog is not free standing itself - often the owner 'drops' the front and rear rather than actually hand placing if it's a larger male.

Placing in a correct stand is stacking. Free standing is walking your dog into position and allowing them to place their own feet, like rotties do. Borzois, whippets, salukis etc are all stacked...and their tails aren't held out :-D

To the original poster, I once judged an OES club match and all the dogs were stacked, most with their heads held too.
