This is getting beyond a joke now. There must be something which can be dropped into this volcano to stop it erupting..I have no idea what but it seems like a good idea in my head that something can/should be done.

I'm due to fly out on tues and they are talking about the cloud being over the London area on tues and clearing for wed. By issue is our flight is weekly and i can't see them flying us out on the wed if this becomes the case.
Luckily my friend owns the apt and its free for the following few weeks, so i guess we can go another week if the airline is not fully booked and will rebook us onto the next flight....Sigh... :-( :-(

LOL! No, you can't stop the planet being a planet! You can't stop earthquakes or volcanoes or hurricanes or tidal waves - you just have to accept them.

We're in the same situation suejaw... flying Weds morning (fingers crossed!) My hubby wants to nuke the volcano! lol :)

And mine is due home on Wednesday from a tropical diving holiday.....

Now is it worse to have your holiday cancelled or not to get back home?

Yes, you'd think this new Government could come up with something, wouldn't you !!!!

Mother Nature often sends us timely reminders that we are just custodians of our planet and not it's owners :-)

On the basis that everything on the planet has a use, I vote William Hague!

That was a very 'blonde' thing to say I know.Hehe.
I was and am still hoping that something comes along to kill the blasted thing..
Praying that the wind changes direction so we can at least fly out..

Worst outcome i'll drive down to Cornwall and go surfing for the week..:-D... Hmmm, prehaps not a bad idea with all those sexy surfer dudes down there.

I am watching the all the news about the ash cloud hoping that it moves away. We are flying to Cuba a week on Wednesday for my youngest daughters wedding. My oldest daughter is flying from Dublin to meet us at Gatwick  a week on Tuesday so I am hoping and praying that it has moved away before then. Keeping my fingers crossed that everyone else manages to get on their flights too. Hoping everyone has a good time.

It causes a lot of aggro here too as a lot of island life depends on the flow of air traffic.
Daily postal and newspaper delivery for one thing.
But I agree that is 'mother nature ' and that is that.

KAren :)

I'm worried about our USA trip too, we could go out and not be able to get back, hubby said he saw on the BBC news today that it could go on for 20 years................. so looks like a continual nightmare that we shall have to get used to on and off. I too had the same thought of dropping something in there :-D or a giant wind machines to blow it all out to sea away from us :-D Hopefully the experts will come up with something or we shall all just have to use ships more often for our travels, boy that would add days on to our travel plans wouldn't it?

Perhaps mother nature is fed up with all the polution and is fighting back. :-)

Or we're being forced to recognise our insignificance in the totality of existence. :-) About time too.

Looks ok right now, Gatwick is closed from 01.00 to 07.00 and all flights are being diverted to other southern airports. They expect it to clear for tues - fingers sooo very crossed :-)

I know the frustration I fly on 4th I hope.

Nature is unpredictable and (obviously) greater than man. But its still a pain in the nether regions!!!!!!!!!

They are trying to find out if they can increase the thresholds of ash for flying. It looks like this may disrupt us for some time to come. A lot worse if you had to live there though!!
- By suejaw Date 17.05.10 21:50 UTC
Looks like we are flying tomorrow after all. All restrictions have been lifted at Gatwick, phew...:-D

I'd rather have the holiday cancelled than be stuck out there. We are flying in July, hope things are settling by then. Mind you I will be dumping my litter of puppies on my friend (my bitch knows her very well, don't worry) so I wouldn't mind having the holiday cancelled as I will miss 10 days of their growing up! Bitch came in season a month early and ruined the schedule - can't move the holiday as it's a big family do and hubby would kill me!

We have made the choice of deferring our holiday booked for August until next year. Our insurance does not cover volcanic ash and although Thomson are currently rearranging dates where possible or refunding it is a good will gesture and they cannot gaurantee they will still do so in August so we could possibly lose £4000 and not get away. We have paid £35 each to move to the same holiday next year and now have nothing booked for summer. If all looks well we may book something last minute this year

I think if you haven't booked an overseas holiday already it's best to holiday in either in the UK or Europe.  It's amazing how far you can get in Europe in just 24 hours and although you may loose a couple of days of your holiday travelling at least you know you will not get stranded.

I've been holidaying in the UK for the last couple of years and finding it surprisingly enjoyable! :-D
