Healing thoughts & prayers for my poor baby who is having a op for pyometra tomorrow :(
- By MandyC [gb] Date 12.05.10 13:43 UTC
sending prayers, i had a 10 year old have a pyo op and she came through like a trooper, thinking of you ... she will be fine, try not to stress she will need you when she is recovering. x

Hope all goes well for her. I had a an 8yr old ckc a few yrs ago who had an open pyo,she also had a quite bad heart murmour as well and she sailed through the surgery and was back to her normal naughty self in just a few days.

Thank you for all your support, she's my right hand girl. she was recovering from a muscle injury in her shoulder & i thought she was actually having a reaction to the metacam, diarreah & no appetite so i discontinued the metacam under the vets supervision. There was no more lamness But last night i noticed the discharge so i called the vets & they confirmed today pyo.God if i had not of seen the pus i would still of been thinking that she was having a reaction to the metacam & waited for an appointment.

Sure she will be fine, it is a worry but it is now in hand and she will soon be on the mend. Everything is crossed but I am sure it will not be needed.

If its any consolation, I got white hairs a month ago when my cocker hurted his back!! Snow white and right in my fringe.

Hi Anabella & Kate

Maddie was a little unsettled but i think the anasthetic can make them a little vocal, i slept on the floor next to her to keep her settled, she woke up a couple of times during the night the first time she went back over to sleep & the second she needed to toilet, she still has a little diarreah & is not interested in food & only a little water, but i suppose it's not been 24 hrs since the operation yet,she is walking to the toilet no problem & is still sleepy. The op site is very neat & tidy & no sign of discharge, not to sure yet if i should clean with hibi scrub, just letting her rest at the moment, she is back at the vets for a post op check tommorrow. How long is it for them to start eating normally after such an op?

LOL Kate I'm 33 but now look like i'm 60

I'm 29 but I think after having dogs my entire life especially my parents 16 year old terrier who used to regularly disappear after rabbits etc for hours I could be on borrowed time!! But the cocker last month really was stressful. I had my saint bernard neutered in January and he didn't eat for 3 days after it. He's terribly soft and was very mournful after his operation. I think as long as your girl is drinking, she will eat when she's ready.

LOL Kate

Maddie had a little to nibble on last night & drinking better this morning,my boy is like that he staved his toe a couple of year back & is such a drama queen where maddie is very stoic about these things.

best wishes during recovery. i found when my pup had a nasty day from nettle stings our relationship cemented with her appreciating me being close to her during healing. even though they do not understand what the treatment is about, i was putting tcp on her little sore stung feet, there seems to be understanding we are trying to help. am sure in fact dogs sense it so it will be good for her to have you concerned and sense it.

Hope Maddie is much better today, they are a worry,I remember my girl having mammory tumours removed I paced up and down plenty of coffee .She was poorly for a few days Like you I slept with her on the floor.after a couple of days she was back to her old self, they are a big worry at times.

Thank you guys
Maddie had her post op check yesterday & the vets were really pleased with her progress, she is eating a little better, but still a little loose in the poo department & she is being herself vocal & cheeky ( i'm sure she thinks she is a wookie lol)
so i have definatly relaxed a little also her muscle injury has cleared up nicely.
Annabella lumps & bumps terrify me, when maddies uncle was alive he had a sebacious cyst, i was convinced it was a tumour & a complete nervous wreck. The vets must think here she comes again.
Anyhow i can now put my valium back on the shelf LOL xx

Its worse than kids because they dont grizzle, then you get the guilt trip "I didnt notice anything was wrong". When Whis was bad a few weeks a ago I walked out in tears telling my vet not to let my dog die.

Even OH phones the vet for news before he dared to come home!!

There precious and we hold their life in our hands, no wonder we get stressed.
- By Annabella [gb] Date 17.05.10 09:50 UTC
Yes its certainly very stressfull,my vet always says to me Sheila just get yourself a large gin and tonic & chill. My old girl is full of lumps and bumbs because of her age I have decided to leave well alone she is enjoying life plenty fresh air little walks an nice food.
glad Maddie is nearly back to her usual self.

Sheila
