Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Male interested in spayed bitch
- By aimibobs [gb] Date 12.05.10 14:30 UTC
Hi Everyone,

My 2 year old entire male has in the last couple of days become interested in his grandma who was spayed about 5-6 years ago. Anyone know the reason?

Thanks,
Aimi.

could she have some kind of infection? maybe a water infection or her anal glands may be very full.

Would ask the vet to check her over could be anything from a sore on her body to a UTI.

It's par for the coourse, I'm afraid, with spayed bitches.    They quite often seem to give off a scent that still makes them attractive to male dogs.     I don't know why, and don't think it's inefficient spaying, although in a few cases I suppose it might  be.

It is very common in the castrated male but less so with bitches, I would have her checked out before assuming it is just one of the side effects of neutering.

I think the body language of a bitch that has been used but later spayed, can still make her highly attractive to male dogs. Is granny a flirty girl? My lad has a penchant for a very elderly GR bitch- she is spayed but had a litter when younger. Whenever she sees my boy - he's entire- she perks up and waggles around and appears to give him very come hither signs.

Hi everyone,

Granny isn't a flirty girly, quite the opposite and has firmly put him in his place.
She does get UTI's sometimes and gets blood clots in her wee but everything clear this time. Wonder if Digger was interested in her broken claw which is due to fall off?
He isn't interested in her anymore much to her relief !

Out of my two bitches, Indie is spayed, Tau is entire, Indie always attracts the attention from the boys, and she is an incredibly flirty gertie!  Tau conversely, doesn't want to know unless she's in season, and then she will flirt with the garden table.  They are just two completely different characters.  I've also read that vets do inadvertently leave ovarian tissue behind during spay operations, and that this can be the cause of symptoms where bitches remain attractive, where they are just not a flirty character and *something* is obviously causing the attraction.
