Some of you might remember my daughters situation with sudden sever allergies during the New year holidays.
Well things have been very fraught over the last 5 mths with many many shock reactions, air ambulance lifts to specialist centre and daily swellings etc. She has gone from 1 junior epipen to 2 XL ones with mthly changes of antihistamines in a bid to control her changing allergy profiles, 1 day she's fine with a drug the next she goes into anaphylaxis with it.
She has now been diagnosed with a very rare disease called Angioedema as yet the type is unknown, this is alongside her allergies. We were shocked to hear the specialist say she was only the 2nd patient he'd seen with such sever symptoms alongside the allergies in his 22 yrs of practise. He then announced this particular disease has a 40% fatality rate but as she is so reactive he suspects her risk factors are higher maybe as much as 60 - 80% depending on how her next allergy testing goes in identifying the causes of reactions and ability to avoid said allegens. On the plus side he assured her she was coping incredibly well and couldn't believe she wasn't on meds to help with the anxiety and sever pain associated with this disease.
Heartbreaker for all of us was the dogs and cats have to go! We thought it was a cleaning solution I'd used that set her off last time she visited but her results showed it was the furries not chemicals. So now I've got a litter to do as I have commitments overseas that will be my last. She can't come see the pups unless they're outside and NO TOUCHING. She has an 11 yr old pom she saved for and showed for a while that used to be her comfort through bad times. She protested about the dogs going, his words turned my stomach as a mother who lost her twin 20 mins after birth all those yrs ago. You have a choice my dear the dogs or your life do you think your family would prefer to have you or the animals?
No choice in my book I can tell you, its bad enough that she goes into anaphylaxis with the fumes from dairy/cleaning products without adding animal dander/fur from our clothes to the mix.
I am so so sorry you must do what you have to do to protect your daughters well being. I cant help but I do feel for you. The closest I got was a 14 year old with heart failure due to his asthma, its frightening and scarey stuff but with care and your love and support 60% can go to 40% and she will survive. The dogs have to go so be it, to friends? can anyone help?

Aww bless her. What an awful situation.
I have horses and that would be my worst nightmare to be allergic to them. :-(
I'm so very sorry Schip; this must be heartbreaking in so many ways.

Does your daughter live with you? If not that gives you some time to re-home the dogs.
What a blow this must be along with your daughters condition, healing thoughts to you and yours.
Petalclenz is soemthing that can be used to wipe yoru ahdns and clothign to remove any traces of yoru dogs when you visit yoru daughter. I suppose keeping clothes for those visits that are kept in a dog free area and washed away from contamination with canine things to put on just before going out.

A terrible time for you and your family. Thinking of you all, and sincerely hope that you soon find homes for all your dogs and cats, as you say you have no choice.

I am so sorry, how dreadful for both of you. Really feel for you but you're absolutely right -family comes first.

Thanks for up dating us.
I am so sorry it is so awful, though there is just no option for you all.
It is going to be very hard for her, and all your family however at least you can deal with things, it is so hard tht it has to be animals that she loves that are the danger for her. :(

Absolutely, family first. I would move heaven and earth for my kids. Even now they are young adults, I am like a mother tiger if anyone crosses them.
But I also can see the heartbreaking other side, as I have a family of furry kids too. It would half kill me I admit but I'd do it
Schip,
I have sent you a PM.

Really sorry to hear that Schip {{{hugs}}} to all

Thanks guys can tell you I've shed a lot of tears over the last 5 mths but so grateful there was a dr with allergies at A & E a few wks ago who realised her swellings were getting worse within mins of IV antihistamines, Steroids and Adrenaline. He told us then if she didn't stop swelling we'd lose her that night, her heart couldn't cope with anymore adrenaline the antihistamines weren't working, he had 1 more thing to try if that failed she'd die! As an adult she had to give permission how I wished I could have done it for her so she'd not have to hear those words, thankfully the treatment worked and she's still here to battle on.
Thank you freelancerukuk they believe her form is HAE which has a treatment protocol they used that night with a good outcome. She is the right age but as they've warned us with allergies associated it could be an aquired form which isn't quite so easy to treat - I am opting for HAE at present purely because she has swellings at anytime in any area of her body. She's a size 8 but can swell so badly around her abdo in mins she needs size 16 joggers to be comfortable looks about 7 mths preggers sometimes, we will know more in 2 wks when some of her results will be back. After that its a trip to birmingham to the specialists for allergy testing with an ICU bed available if they need to intubate and infuse with the C1 protein so they tell us.
I've given myself until Sept, my 50th to rehome the dogs, already have clothes that haven't been here around the animals that I use when I visit her now, no dairy near her not even certain brands of crisps as they're soaked in milk before frying - makes them crispier!

Schip, what a harrowing time you've had as a family--so sorry and wishing you all the very best for the future.
Life does throw us some trials and tribulations doesn't it? :-(
I'm thankful as you are that they have found out what is wrong, now you can all move forward, knowing what it is is half the battle. The dog situation is heartbreaking, gosh I would be devastated, it would rip me in two to have to give them up. But, if losing them saves your daughters life then there is no contest really is there? And your a brilliant mum to self sacrifice. You sound to have sadly accepted what you need to do. However, could Brainless's idea work? I know your daughter could not come to your home anymore, but could the clothes thing work out at all................?
If not, I know I would move heaven and earth for my boys so I guess they would need to go, and the house would have to have the biggest spring clean ever, maybe even new carpets etc as dog hairs can be deeply caught in the piles even after hoovering still, also embedded in sofas, chairs etc too, it's going to be a big job eradicating everything dog there.
I feel so upset for you, but of course and most importantly wishing your daughter all the best too.

OMG that is awful- so sorry to hear this and can't even imagine what you all are going through....
Thoughts and prayers with your family
(((hugs)))
