Hi Just wondering what wormer you all use on your puppies. I wormed the bitch from day 40 with Panacur and I usually worm the pups with Panacur paste at 2 weeks. I have heard some really bad things about Panacur which is making me quite reluctant to use it this time even though i havnt had any probs before.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I won't use Panacur myself due to knowing so many people who had problems with it, including pups dying but if you ask around you will find similar stories about ALL wormers. What suits one animal doesn't necessarily suit another. Personally I use Drontal for my pups, the puppy suspension, and have never had a problem. I do not worm my bitches during pregnancy, only just before mating and then again when the pups are done.

I have always used Panacur and still do.

I did have an awful situation with it when it first was sold to em with the makers bottle and instructions and not dispensed by the vet.

I did the 3 5 and 8 week protocol and had very ill pups following the second worming.

I went back to what I had done previously and since, (considering the bitch had been wormed through pregnancy, so very little worm burden likely in pups), I worm at 3 weeks (3 - 3 weeks 3 days) and at 7 weeks (7-7wks 3 days), and then instruct new owners to worm at 11 weeks half way through their vaccination regime if they are being done at 10 and 12 or 1 week after vaccinations finished if being done at 8 and 10, wither way avoids their bodies having too many things at once.

I have now wormed 6 generations of bitches in pregnancy and their puppies., due to this I expect they will have very little encysted larva in their tissues.

i use drontil for my pups we also dont worm our bitches during pregnancy but we do it just before mating and after pups are born, then the pups are wormed at 2 weeks.

I use Panacur after having a bad scare with Drontal puppy with my oldest bitch.

The bitch is wormed immediately before mating then wormed with the pups at 3 weeks then as per Brainless' regime, but I also worm the bitch at the same time as the pups :-D

Pups always healthy and worming doesn't seem to  bother them.

It is very important to accurately weigh each pup to ensure the correct dose.

I can't stress this enough. Also when it says x per kilo and the pup weighs 1.something kilo it gets dosed for 1kg not 2, when it reaches 2kg plus it gets 2kg dosage etc.

it's powerful stuff, for example for sheep it is 1ml per 5kg as opposed to 1ml per kg for dogs (talking the 10% suspension).
