I often walk on a local golf course and this morning they are spraying it with weed killer, presumably a selective one to kill the daisys etc. Does anyone know whether it is safe to walk dogs on and if not how long should I keep away from it? the groundsman was not much help as he just said that I could walk on it but at my own risk.

Most weed killers are safe once dry but that is to walk on, not eat. I would check with your local council I would expect them to be very careful what they use in public places but you can check before using the area.

i wouldnt rely on the say so of some groundsman. personally id want to see myself what product was being used, and then check it out myself.

It will be a selective weed killer to kill broad leaved weeds. Something like tritox, relay. Without looking at the chemical pot back at the lock up i cant tell you the active ingredients. I have been spraying this stuff for 10 years and always advise customers to keep pets off until it is dry. I would personally not stand in the spray or take a dog near when spraying but once it is dry there will be no problem :) :) hth lea :)

thanks, i play ball with the dogs on the field so wondering if there is a risk of them  eating some of the weed killer as they pick up their balls off the  grass?

What about a dog eating grass?  That is what worries me about using weedkiller - it is still there when dry surely?

The amount they would ingest through eating grass or picking a call up would be negligable. They dont put that much on. Only about 500ml of spray per 100 square meters :) hth lea

Hmmm i would be wary the one i have at home is pet safe once dry but thats the key once dry - as someone else suggested it may be best to check with the council but if they were doing it today i would think 24-48 hours would be safe
