Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / co ownership/kc registration of litter
- By Missie Date 07.05.10 13:54 UTC
If you have a bitch on breeding terms but both owners have own affix's and the  dog is registered with breeders' affix, how do you go about registering the litter with the same (breeders') affix?
Does the one person have to disown the dog, put it solely in breeders name to be able to register litter? But will the fact that the mating took place whilst both owned the dog put a stop to that?? Tried the KC by phone but getting nowhere with them, and am awaiting reply from email enquiry  :(

Does anyone know how to go about it?

Who is the owner on the KC loan of bitch agreement.

That is the person who will be the breeder (it's the birth of the pups that counts, not ownership at mating), and the litter can be registered with their affix.

Thanks :)
But just heard from KC, they said I had to *disown*  BEFORE the date of mating, then breeder can register them in her affix. (I have the dog here, but on breeding terms so although she's in joint names, she's not in my affix) otherwise the pups would have NO affix at all!
It all seems so silly really when I was quite prepared to sign saying they could be registered in hers anyway = but hey ho, there you go :)

So there was no loan of bitch agreement lodged with the kennel club?, you simply own a bitch jointly.

If you don't have a joint affix then the pups can't be registered with any affix, if she is still in joint ownership when the pups are born.

You can only use your or the other persons affix if one or other of you solely owns the bitch.

Your affix is for your sole use for litters born to bitches you solely own, it's your affix, and the same for the other owner.  You could take out a separate joint affix for litters you breed in joint ownership.

The least expensive option is to transfer her to one name (before the litter is born), use that affix for the litter, but the pups will be listed as bred by that person alone, and then transfer her back to joint ownership after.

Thanks for explaining Barbara :)
if we'd have realised earlier we could have sorted this out before.

You can of course register the pups with two words and no affix, and then whichever you and the other owners keep pay to add your affixes onto the name.

for example Bluebell Lady could become Bluebell Lady at Requiredaffix.

The most expensive, but less expensive than taking out a new affix, is to add the affix onto each puppy, but they would have to be transfered into that persons ownership so transfer fee plus changing the name fee.

As bitch is registered in both names, could you not decide on which affix you'd prefer to use and have a joint interest in the affix for dogs jointly registered?

no because it was always going to be in her affix/name.
Its just one of those things you don't think about when you start off with something like this. I had my own affix at the time but couldn't add it because then the newborn pups would have been registered in my affix.
Its sorted now anyway, (and we're still friends LOL ) but thanks for your replies, both of you :)
