Hi,
I have just been looking at the CSJ website and saw this :Get Over!: herb mixture for aging dogs aches and pains and wondered if anyone has used this product with good results. My GSD had dodgy hips and as she ages she stiffens up, so would love to hear any comments on this treatment.

I used it for just over 2 years with my older girl - only 5 years old! She had a back leg injury whilst doing agility and was having a few problems with mobility, she would go quite lame if doing quick stop/start type running, such as after a ball. Whilst very sceptical about using herbs, I tried the Get Over. As said, we were using it for just over 2 years, I'm certain it helped her. I don't use it now as have put her onto devils claw root, which is only used now if I think she has a problem (I also buy this from CSJ).  I'd say give it a go, it certainly wont do any harm, and you may well find it does help. A tub lasted my girl around 5 months, if I remember correctly, so pretty good value for money.

I have an 8 year old GSD with hip dysplasia and  at the beginning of the year bought a GSD puppy from a well respected breeder and she recommended Green lipped mussel extract for my boy, we have had him on it for 3 months and he is definitely moving better, so it might be worth trying.

Hi Symisox, she used to be on the green lipped mussel but became quite poorly, it seems she is very allergic to any kind of fish. For this reason I have to be careful re the oily capsules for joints as many of them are based on fish oil. I was looking for a joint treatment that didn't include fish and saw the herbal treatment and wondered if this had helped anyone else.
I appreciate your advice and know the GL/Mussels are excellent and just wish I could use them for her. (She had xrays at about 1 year old and it was seen that she had virtually no formed hip socket on the right and not much better on the left and was holding together with muscles only, she has built up muscles at the front to compensate, so is literally front wheel drive, and is now at 9 is getting quite stiff and walking less and less.

Hi, My 8yo GSD is on "get over" she has been on it for around 3 months now, to be honest I haven't really noticed much difference :-( She isn't bad, just getting a little stiff in her hips so maybe I wont notice such a big difference??

I give my other dog a Chihuahua with very bad food allergy's "heal" the difference with him has been amazing! he is now able to eat and not get ill every few day's which he was beforehand. HTH :-)

Hi Sillysue what a shame she can't tolerate it, then hopefully the herbal treatment will help I hope so, Jake had his x-ray at a similar age and from what you say has a virtually identical result!  Good luck

I am using Sasha's Blend for mine and have had amazing results with an old RW x GSD bitch with HD and ED. She left me at 17 years of age. I am now giving it to all my oldies and can see a marked difference in their movements ater giving it for about 3 weeks.

I use Joint Aid for dogs made by growell nutrition
http://www.gwfnutrition.com/prod_jointaid_dog/index.htm

Worked really well for my oldies and now for my ones that are now ageing :)
Very happy with it and would happily reccommend it.

If you buy the larger 2kg tub it's cheaper from these guys (as they buy in bulk from GWF nutrition)

Hi,
Many thanks for the advice. I looked on the Sasha's Blend website and it advises not to use on dogs with seafood intolerance, so this is a no no. I have also emailed the Joint Aid website to see if the same applies as this is the problem I have with her allergy. Fingers crossed this one will be OK though as she is reaching an age when she needs some help even though she is on permanent meds (Carprodyl) my vet has offered to up the dose, but I would prefer to find a more natural way if I can rather than keep upping the pain killers.

Many many thanks Boxacrazy, I heard back from Joint Aid that their product was fine for dogs with seafood allergies, so I ordered some. My GSD has been on it for just over a week now and the improvement is amazing. I keep thinking it may just be coincidence that she has improved but this morning she actually walked over half a mile by her choice when before she only moved a few yards (enough to wee and poo) and then sat and waited. It is on our land so she is quite safe if she waits for me to return, but this morning she just kept going. Obviously she is far from agile and never will be able to run with the others, but I am so pleased with the improvement so far, and she seems far more comfortable moving so hopefully with less pain.
Thanks for recommending this product.

lol Cats are just soooo fussy! Little tinkers!

Actually I think I need some Joint Aid or Get Over.... Thursday before last I did something very stupid and since then my elbow has been very painful. I am typing left handed and as a naturally right handed person everything is being done just a that bit slower....

I used to use 'heal' too and definately noticed a difference.  I like CSJ herbs, thinking of trying the one for incontinence think its called 'easy pee'sy'.  Never used the 'Get over' but its all natural stuff so worth a try and can't do any harm.

Not looked at this particular CSJ remedy, but they do seem to have some good stuff.  I use some of the herbs etc they do in the raw blended veggie mix for my two, as I think they are beneficial.  Two things I use in the raw blended veggie mix that aren't fish related, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar, both are good for promoting healthy joints, worth considering using if you can.

One thing people discard because tomatoes are considered bad for aging joints, is sardines in tomatoe juice, obviously with the fish connection this wouldn't be a consideration for your girl.  If you can get her red tomato sauce in small doses with something else, this contains lycopene which is beneficial, contains very effective free radicals and is thought to be an effective anti carcinogen, the bits of tomatoes to watch out for are the green stems and leaves, or unripe fruit, which contain solanine, and this can exacerbate joint problems.

Many thanks for all the advice folks.
I have only recently found out about this CSJ brand (saw it on this forum and investigated further ) As well as bad hips my GSD also suffers with inflammatory bowel disease  and has been on JWB turkey and rice for most of her life as this was recommended by the specialist and it is the only one that she can eat, however since my OH died I have had to cut back financially wherever possible. I am now trying her on the CSJ senior light gluten free food with the 'heal' as well, more than half the price of JWB (but I'm ready to go back to this if need be as she matters more than money). However she loves it and so far no bad effects so I am taking one day at a time and hope this continues to be ok for her, maybe the heal will stop any reactions, only time will tell.
So far I must admit I am very impressed with this brand and the herbs ( and the prices) my other dogs have moved onto the CSJ Champs, again great savings.
