Im going to my brothers passing out parade on the 14th and was wondering what exactly to wear. I know its smart wear but would dress and jacket/cardy be ok , or should I be in a suit?
Have never been to anything like this before so want to make sure I get it right! :)
Thanks , Kate
Not sure what type of passing out parade you refer to but when my husband and I had our passing out parades (Police) it was posh frock and hat job (that was 40 and 30 years ago) However times have changed and we recently went to our daughters and I wore a trouser suit (took jkt off as I got so hot!) hubby jacket and trousers. There were people there in all manner of outfits representing all different walks of life.
I think it is important for you to feel comfortable, dress with a smart cardi would be fine or if you want treat yourself to a suit?
Have a great time and enjoy the special day, don't forget lots of pics!!!

Thank you for replying so quickly. It's a Navy passing out parade , he's just completed his initial training. Will definately remember the camera!!

My BIL's passed out of the Navy and RAF in the last few years, it was a dress and cardi that their wife/girlfriend wore.

I'd say dress for the weather. 4 yrs ago I went to AFC Harrogate to watch my boy's passing out parade, it was January and bloomin freezing, I wore my sheepskin and fur lined boots I was comfy sat in our ice covered sets whilst other more 'smartly' dress ladies sat shivering.
The day is for the lads, when they strut their stuff and show off their skills at marching etc, as with my boy's day it can be a long one, from mid morning to early afternoon so you need to be comfy, well watered/fed and well pursed because you'll no doubt want to buy the endless photo's etc that may be available. You'll love it and have big tears like I did :-D

Sam - where's BRNC? My brother is at HMS Raleigh.
I think it is definately dress and smart cardy! Is it best to stay with darker colours like black , navy blue etc?
