Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / mini schnauzer over due.................
- By WVschnauzer23 [us] Date 08.12.02 19:52 UTC
I have a 3 year old mini schnauzer that was due on friday, and is still not showing any signs of whelping. She has her milk in , and she is very very pregnant. I have been able to feel the puppies kicking for a long time (at least 2 weeks) However, friday was here due date, and that has came and went, and still no signs of whelping. This is my first litter of puppies, and her second. I have a two and a half year old male that is the father of the puppies, but he is not a very experienced stud. I figured up from the first day that she stood and let him breed. Maybe he was just anxious and jumped her early. Does anybody have any suggestions.
Thanks, WVschnauzer23

Have youtaken her temperature, that is usually a good sign to let u no when she is going to go in to whelp, I always took temp. 3 times a day and made note of it, the minute it dropped my female had her first pup 24 hrs later. Have you noticed any greenish slimy stringy stuff coming from her vulva, that can be another sign of going into whelp. It's not usual or unusual to have a bitch go as long as 65 days, I have even heard of 68 days. You could call ur vet and let them know whats up so they are aware of everthing incase their is a problem. Good luck
ttfn :)

Hi there,

If it is any help, my Mini Schnauzer was 4 days late on both of her two litters and showed no signs of whelping until about a couple of hours before going into labour. Best of luck.

I did call the vet but he said that he didnt think I should worry for atleast a few more days. Since I am a first time grandma I guess I am just anxious and excited.

I had a litter recently born fine on the 65th day - though I was a bit worried I can tell you. She only had one supervised mating though so I knew for sure when she was due.

Are the puppies still moving & kicking? And has she shown any signs of labour like panting & scratching at the floor or gone off her food?
Jenny.
