Hi all - back after a break.  I posted a question about encouraging coat growth about a year ago and after lots of helpful advice (thanks all!) I have tried Salmon Oil and Yumega for a year each on two dogs.  I have to say it seems to have made no difference whatsoever! I now have a new question: my current show boy has lots of coat (hooray!) but does like to get good and dirty across the fields.  The only shampoo I have found that gets him really clean again (tricolour) is White on White which works brilliantly but dries his skin so he scratches.  I've got him on Yumega to try and counteract it but does anyone know of a better shampoo?  It seems horrid to make him itchy so I can show him - although he does love showing lol!  I know some people in my breed don't let their show dogs get wet or dirty - but my dogs are pets first and that isn't the way forward for me. 

I am about to purchase summerwinds if you take a look at thier US website http://www.summerwinds.com/  it looks pretty good , you can get it from hub or petcetra. I also found CC products cause irritation. Obviously I cant recommend it but worth a look at least!!

I've seen some on I think the Groomer site, and probably others, which claim to be for deep cleaning on very dirty dogs, I've not tried them myself though. Ordinary shampoo seems to get mine clean, and George in particular gets impressively dirty sometimes! :-D Or perhaps a conditioner to help the coat after the harsher shampoo?

Hmm the site looks good which are you buying?  I can get him clean easily enough, it's getting the white bits really white that's the problem...

Groomers all the way for me - blue pearl (I think) shampoo for the whites. For coat growth and condition, I find their Royal Jelly food supplement excellent (and Yumega useless), and the Groomers one is also much cheaper.

I haven't tried the white shampoo, but have tried the textured shampoo on my Spanish & was impressed.  Obviously can't recommend it as I haven't used it but if you google the company & watch the owner on YouTube it will explain that the company is more interested in the skin of the dog.

If you do try it, could you let me know how you get on (I hasten to add I have no links to this company at all, was given a free sample at Crufts).

Have used the MD-10 on my Calida my Spanish and two of my Pomeranian's.  The dirt just falls off and Calida's white bits were lovely and white without me having to work hard.

Again I don't have anything to do with the company but all SWD owners were given a free sample at Crufts.  It definitely gets the thumbs up from me and I know a number of other people are extremely happy with it!

I used to use Doreen Paige on my rough and beardie collies and found them very good. Sometimes I would something else but always when back to them and now use it on my aussie. I used CC conditioner but didn't think much of it and yes it does make them scratch. Valerie at Doreen Paige will always send a small bottle sample free to try if you ask and also if you are not happy with the product they will always change it. i tried Yumega and found it didn't work and went back to my old way of using Evening Primrose capsules, it kept my beardie in brilliant coat.

Well I've tried Doreen Paige but couldn't stand the smell!  And am suspicious of anything so strongly scented... it did get them clean though.

I am surprised at that as I do not think they smell strong at all, which are you referring to in fact I think they have improved since being taken over.

I have used DP product and found them good, def not strong scented , just found them a bit pricey for the amount of product you get. (was it a mink oil item you purchased ?)

Oh!  Well I've just checked - Evening Primrose Oil Finishing Spray and Crown Jewels Conditioner - and they still smell strongly!  But I did buy them a few years ago...

The shampoo's I think do not smell strong, I used the evening primrose but definitely not as strong as Groomers my dog hated that but put up with this one it dose go off quickly just leaves a nice smell to the coat.

My boy used to suffer from itchy skin but since I started him on Omega aid it's helped alot.
I had to use prescription shampoo before that now I don't need anything :) I also found bursting evening primrose capsules and rubbling it onto the worst affected areas very soothing for him.
+1 to the recommendation of Groomers shampoo. I'm using that the blue pearl and the evening primrose now and it's working a treat to keeping his coat nice and white.
Before that I was using plush puppy blue shampoo. I found it fabulous and it really got him white but it just softened his coat a bit so I only use it once a month now.

Thanks samfan!  He doesn't have a bad skin, just gets a bit dry and itchy after shampooing, but I will try the Groomers shampoo.
