Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / PUP MARKING IN HOUSE

Hi all

A friend of mine has a 7 month Lhlaso Ahapso pup (spelling!!). Its a dog. Spoke to her today and the pup is territory marking in the house all the time. Not in kitchen or utility room as it sleeps there. Marks curtains, handbags, furniture etc. They are not experienced dog owners. I have never experienced this behaviour and can't really help. Do have a theory and have told them this, but could do with advice to pass on. I wondered is it as the pup is being kept in the kitchen all the time and when its let out, it starts to mark. They do let it in the lounge etc at night if they're in there, but it appears to be a vicious circle. Let pup out, pup pees all over the place, get fed up and keep pup in kitchen and so on.

I'll pass on your advice to them.

I would tell them to keep the pup on lead and everywhere they go the pup goes. This way u can correct the bad habit before he does it. When they are unable to keep pup on lead ex. eating, bathing ect. put the pup back in the kitchen. When they see him go to lift his leg they can also spray him with water but don't allow him to see them do it, this way he will think everytime he lifts his leg in the house he gets sprayed. They can also try feeding him where he likes to mark. Hope this helped some. I think he has to learn too thats still part of the house and to allow more free time in there while being supervised on lead.
ttfn :)
