Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / do other dogs know if a bitch is pregnant?
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.05.10 20:24 UTC
my bitch is pregnant and from the time she came into season she and my other 2 dog have calmed down a hell of alot, they use to play fight every chance they got from morning till night, but since my bitch came into season and is now pregnant they have hardly moved when in the house, all 3 of them just sleep. is it possible they know she is pregnant and this has calmed them down?

I believe they do....

I think they do too.

I have litter sisters who are normally chasing/playing with each other on our walks, but as soon as one was mated, she stopped it and her sister seemed to know and never bothered her about playing either.

Even before we knew whether she was pregnant or not, endless times I saw her sister washing her tummy, something that I'd never seen her do before, so I was hoping it was a good sign, which is turned out to be! :)

What was she like with the pups? My friend had Rough Collies, both of them had one litter each. The sister always helped Mum out ;-)

my girl has just had her 1st litter ,her and her sister (litter sisters) did calm down abit with the play fighting ,so i think they do know something is different (smell) BUT new mum went into shock when 1st pup was born ,so i dont think they know there pregnent 1st time round i think it has alot to do with hormone change and the smell they give off.

Her sister was wary of them at first but the pups mom has been quite protective up till the last few days, whereas now she has relaxed with the others around them.  They are all just sniffing them at the moment, and can't quite make out what they are lol.  When they cry, 2 of my bitches cry too hehe.
