Topic Dog Boards / Showing / signatures required on entry form
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 02.05.10 13:37 UTC
My friend has a dog he wants to show. The problem being the dog is in joint names with his ex-partner who is no longer on the scene, so do any of you folks know if you can get round this as the KC want both names on the entry form? He will contact the KC on Tuesday but I just wondered if anyone else had been in this situation.
Thanks

All my dogs are owned in partnership with my OH. I have never got him to sign the entry forms and it has never been asked that he should do so. I think it will be fine he if just signs it and sends it.

My dogs were all in a partnership prior to my divorce. I never did get my OH to countersign the form. It's so much easier to enter shows online nowadays ;-)

Always signed just my signature as my mum and I have the affix together.  Does say though that it is signed on the agreement of both parties though I think?  Only problem I wd. see is if the partner was not happy about you showing and then complained to the KC.

I think both signatures might be needed if you bred the dog but you don't need both to show the dog

In the past I have shown dogs that were owned in partnership with co-owners that lived many miles away from me. I only ever sent entries off with my own signature on them, and that includes Crufts entries. I never ever had a problem.

I phoned the KC about this a while ago... I had a pup with a family.. it was daughters dog, but 3 names were on the owners document.. 2 daughters and father (as responsible person) and every show they kept having to get the 3 signatures.. (I handled in breed classes, daughter did JH)

KC's reply was this.. Only one signature required, as long as a letter has been signed by other owners stating that they are happy for person 'A' to sign on their behalf.. They could specify a time limit on the letter, or leave it open ended.. They did not need to send letter to the KC for verification, but Ideally take it with them to the shows, in case of the secretaries query.. No-one ever queried the single signature..

As others have said there is no problem unless the other party complained - the dog has been left in your friends care so I think he is morally entitled to do with it as he wishes. Should there be a complaint from the other party the KC may ask for explanation but that is highly unlikely.

He should try and get in touch with the co owner and ask for the dog to be signed over to him or for 50% of the cost of keeping him, if the ex will do this then no problem should the dog prove successful and his owner wishes to use him to breed. If the joint owner wishes to retain part ownership then they must retain part cost and responsibility.

Thanks for all your replies.
I thought the KC had enforced the rule about joint owners signing the form recently hence my query.
The 'ex' has no contact (or interest) in the dog or owner so is unlikely to object/know about the dog being shown. The show is a breed one & can't be done online so I'll get him to enter with just his signature.

P.s
where's my union jack gone? I don't live in Germany (or even have an up to date passport)!
Oh, it's back!

I am just taking entries for a show now and many of them are in duel ownership and only have one signature, most secretaries and/or treasurers would only be interested that the correct fees have been paid and making a note of who has paid for what, you check the age of the dog & the breed of the entry and clear it through as acceptable.

However if it were possible to have the ex sign a release letter it would be the best all round.

SKC last year DID query the single signature on a friend of mine - Refused the entry without two signatures (which was wrong) - They had the letter signed - but obviously don't send it with entries - SKC is the only one I've ever known that asked for a 2nd signature!!!!!!

From KC

"Earlier this year two changes were published to Kennel Club Regulations which affect the declaration all exhibitors and competitors sign when entering for shows or trials.
These changes confirmed that all registered owners must sign the entry declaration or there must be satisfactory written evidence of the consent of one owner to sign on behalf of one or more of the other joint owners and stated that a dog's owner(s) will not bring to a Show/Trial any dog which is suffering from a visible condition which adversely affects its health or welfare.
The revised declaration for Breed Shows is given below with the relevant changes in bold for ease of reference:

'I/We agree to submit to and be bound by Kennel Club Rules & Regulations in their present form or as they may be amended from time to time in relation to all canine matters with which the Kennel Club is concerned and that this entry is made upon the basis that all current single or joint registered owners of this dog(s) have authorised/consented to this entry. I/We also undertake to abide by the Regulations of this Show and not to bring to the Show any dog which has contracted or been knowingly exposed to any infectious or contagious disease during the 21 days prior to the Show, or which is suffering from a visible condition which adversely affects its health or welfare or to bring any dog which has been prepared for exhibition contrary to Kennel Club Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition F(Annex B). I/We agree without reservation that any Veterinary Surgeon operating on any of my/our dogs in such a way that the operation alters the natural conformation of the dog or part thereof may report such operations to the Kennel Club. I/We declare that where any alteration has been made to the natural conformation of the dog(s) the relevant permission to show has been granted by the Kennel Club. I/We further declare that I/we believe to the best of my/our knowledge that the dogs are not liable to disqualification under Kennel Club Show Regulations.' "
