Topic Other Boards / Foo / Making a complaint about Royal Mail
- By ChristineW Date 27.04.10 16:54 UTC
A few weeks ago I made a call to Royal Mail's customer services about not receiving any mail for over 2 weeks.    The complaint was logged & I was assured someone from the local sorting office would contact me, which hasn't happened (Not surprised to be truthful!).  I now want to make a complaint in writing but I have looked through RM's website and can find nothing more than the customer service number.  Can anyone help with a proper person/address to write a complaint too?

Thanks

Here you go.

Notices and complaints in writing can be addressed to Royal Mail, Tallents House, 21 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9PB.  (From here http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content2?catId=5700002&mediaId=400226)

Ooh - your address is different to the one I found :-) Perhaps they have a lot of complaints and one office isn't able to deal with them all :-)

Ha ha, wouldn't surprise me.  They're pretty rubbish tbh.  Some of our mail at work keeps going to a completely different address (even though the mail is correctly addressed to us, but the company name is similar to ours).  I was considering writing to complain about it.  Surely they should be delivering by the street name and number rather than the company name.

I actually think they do a pretty good job overall :-) and I couldn't get a letter to the other end of the country for less than the cost of a stamp so all in all I think the cost and the service is pretty good. I have a friend who lives in Canada and their postal service is nowhere near as good as ours even with the problems that do occur here at times. My post lands inside my front door whereas she has to collect it from a post office and the cost of a stamp is far more than it is in the UK.

Thanks.

I have to say I currently think the name Royal Fail is very apt.  :-(

I'm not saying you shouldn't complain but have you checked with your local sorting office?  They are generally manned within office hours (more staff in the morning) if you are able to call in, or phone them for some advice.  Just check their address then Google for a direct dial number.

I've always found my local delivery and sorting offices to be very friendly and helpful.  Hope you get the problem sorted (pardon the pun!) :)

When I spoke to customers services, I was given an official complaint number and was assured someone from the local sorting office would phone me or come around to speak to me about the problem.  I'm still waiting & that was 5 weeks ago!

On the subject of Royal Mail,my postman/men constantly sign for my registered post/signed delivery mail. The odd thing from e bay isn't too bad - but I have never had anything go astray, but prior to Christmas all my shopping vouchers £500 worth was left on my door step and Mr Postie had signed for them.Is this a common occurance.

Yes it is. We often have mail left or posted through the letter box that should have been signed for but isn't...!!!
I once had a parcil containing a heavy breakable object pushed through the high bathroom window..it fell on the hand basin and it was lucky it did not break either the basin or the item in the parcil!!!

Posties in our area aren't too bad - I've had parcels put in the kennel, which is right round the back of the house.  A carrier once left a £500 car part at our back door on a very stormy day and it blew round the house and down towards the street!

Our old postman used to stomp up the steps and make the dogs bark - one morning I lay in wait, and as I heard him on the bottom step flung the door open, he almost choked!  Think he thought the dogs had managed to open the door!

I sent £300 to someone in cash by the special recorded guaranteed service that has to be signed for, her postie just put it through her letterbox, never saw if anyone was in which she was!
