Can anyone let me know what to use to get rid of a tick my dog has one above the eye.

but you are best removing it quickly so if you can't wait either go to the vet or use tweezers being extra careful not to leave any in the dog.

Just found this website which shows you how to get rid of the tick by just rubbing it round in a circle for under a minute and it just releases itself, just done it and it really works. www.instructables.com

Hi, yes that nifty little trick really does work. However, if like me you hate handling the things, or if they're too small to twist round, the tick remover tools are even cheaper on this site (free p&p)

Any advances?  Oh, for the days when things used to be cheaper on e-Bay!! :-)

I support BADA with anything tick related....

I think I've bought just about every contraption going for the little blighters.  Some expensive.

But those little green twisty cheap things are the best invention ever.  Even with my gammy hands, it's a success!

Called Tom Tick or some such, and it couldn't be easier.  :-)

They are good, and BADA sell them off their website as well, it's the remover they recommend you use, their website has lots of useful information on there about high risk times/places and tick borne diseases.

Just as an aside, I do frontline my dogs, and also put fenugreek and mint into the blended veggie mix for my two, as both of these apparently deter ticks from attaching.

coincidence but as I was reading this thread my sisiter rang in a panic they had found a tick on their dog well actually it had fallen off complete. bil had found somethingthe night before on the dog not realising what it was today it was fat and horrid on the floor!
Slight bump left on the dog after googling I advised a drop of alcohol on the spot (and pleanty in them by the sound of it) and to keep an eye on their dog  for any more ticks and being off colour. Any further advice please?

This is the info on tick borne diseases that can affect our pets, there's lots of info re prevention, life cycle of ticks etc, if you look through the website.

I have never had a dog ill from having a tick, sometimes a small lump but if keep clean usually goes down dose take a bit of time. When we were on holiday on the Isle of Man some years ago David found two on him one on his stomach and the other on his leg. Sprayed them with lacquer as that was all we had and it worked they come off, wish I had known then about what was on that website.

I tend to dab the tick with surgical spirit before removing. Someone once told me that this causes paralysis in the tick and makes it easier to remove, not sure if this is old wives tale, but they all seem to come out quickly.
