We have a 10 month old Boxer pup who is in season this is her first week of bleeding, she has started to get what I think is depression as she is being stubborn about going out and she has started to hide under chairs, she usually goes up the downs every day with my friends boxer who she has not seen for a week,we have been taking her just around our road to which she hates as she doesnt like traffic at the best of times we only ever see a odd car but she shakes if she see one.The road fear was here before the season but the hiding and looking depressed is this to do with her first season our other bitches have never been like this does anybody elses bitches act like this when they are in season,my friend is going to bring her Boxer round so they can play in the garden this might cheer her up. Thank you for any thoughts Debby.

They can be funny when in season, though Ellie never is. If you can play some games with her in the garden to give her some fresh air and work her mind, you might not need to take her around the roads, not that getting used to roads wouldn't be a good idea generally, but perhaps not if she's feeling sorry for herself. Your friend's dog is a bitch I hope? Even a neutered male can mate a bitch, though not produce puppies!

Bitches can be quite strange during their season (especially their first) one of the girls from or last litter came in at 6 months and was very miserable and bewildered, imagine all those hormones raging.
I would try and distract her by playing with her and occupying her with other things so she doesn't have chance to think about things!

My friends dog is a bitch, she came around this afternoon when Betty saw Roxy it was as if some one had flicked a switch they both went mad as the older boxer is also missing Betty,I have still been keeping up her training both obiedience and for the ring as this gives her something to focus on,regaurding her road walking we are taking this time to get her used to the roads as she is taking her Silver Good Citizen Award in June and part of this is road walking.thanks for the replys debby.

I never take in season bitches out walking.

They get their play, exercise, training, in the garden.  A bit unfair to owners of males, taking out an in season bitch.

Not if you stick to walking where all dogs are required to be kept leashed and practise avoidance when you see anyone with a dog (cross the road), and avoid peak walkign times.

I agree with Brainless we walk Betty when it is quite in  that we walk her after ten and she is always on the lead and by law all dogs have to be on leads on pavements, also she is our 6th Boxer so we have had bitches for over 20 years, this is he first one to act like this, also we show our dogs and I have been to many champ and open shows where they take bitches that are in season which is highly unfair you always geet the answer that they have just come out of season and next minute see them in the woods on site getting the bitch mated which is totally against any show rules it is different if the mating happens off site but we have seen this going on at show sites.Debby
