Hi,

Anybody insured with SwiftCover,  just had a very reasonable quote for my two Labs.  It works out roughly £35.00 for the both.  It isn't a

lifetime cover but offers £4000.00 per condition.

I can't seem to find any info about the Company other than motor insurance and wondered if anyone had used them for their dogs insurance.

Cheers.

I think you need to be looking at life time cover as the first criteria, I have a springer who was diagnosed with lungworm, initial tests were over £600.00, medication is £138.00 a month at the moment, this is likely to increase as medication is tweaked as it he gets older, he is now 7 months from diagnosis so in 5 months his cover would cease if he he didn't have life time cover.

I would look at other companies that definitely provide life time cover.

I'm with Healthy pets who charge £35.00 a month for 3 springers, one aged 8 and two aged 5, age has a bearing on the cost of your cover too.

I did look at Healthy Pets but they were quite a lot more expensive and I just don't have the money at the moment.

The £4000 is not just for 12 months but is for an unlimited period which I don't think is too bad.  On a parr with Tesco's, Argos and the like.

I wish I could afford a more expensive policy but at the moment I'll just have to go with this and hope for the best.

I have to be realistic and paying the Mortgage, Bills and feeding the family take priority.

Have a look at AXA, my GSD was £164 1st year, I claimed about 1K in first year, renewal was DOWN to £156 for 2nd year, that is with £7000 and lifetime cover :-)

I've found AXA very good as well. They are the only insurers I've had where the premiums have gone down, rather than massive increases I've had with others.
- By clio1 [gb] Date 21.04.10 15:15 UTC
This one is underwritten by AXA so hopefully it'll be good.

I've gone through loads on the net, getting quotes and this seems to be the best one I've found.

You'd be surprised how quickly vet's fees can build up and although £4000 per condition sounds fairly good, AXA's lifetime would be much better (£7000 per condition per policy year) should some ongoing lifetime condition develop.

See how their quote compares (http://www.axa.co.uk/insurance/pet/axa)

hi Pedlee,

Just tried AXA and it's come out at £22.74 just for one Dog, so it would be about £45.00 for the two.
- By Pedlee Date 21.04.10 15:52 UTC
I appreciate money is tight for you, but I think it would be better to pay the extra £10 for a better level of cover. Having said that at least some cover is better than no cover IMO.

If you're doing a shop around, try VIP http://www.vip4u.co.uk Don't bother with the online quote, just ring (though they do respond to the online quotes very rapidly) - they're really helpful and friendly.  I've used them for 5 years now, admittedly only had one claim but it was dealt with very quickly with no hassle or problems.  I use them as they cover competing dogs ... something a lot of companies wont. May or may not apply to you, but it is important to me.  We used to do agility, so VIP covered us for any injuries in that, and I have dogs that work sheep ... they'll also cover us for any injuries incurred.

Hi, sorry, just read through entire thread.  If of any interest I'm currently paying around £23 per month ... for 4 dogs! Admittedly it is the basic cover, but with dog number 5 with me that's it.  I haven't actually asked VIP to quote for the next level or 2 up.  Could I afford £20 per dog per month with 5 dogs, sadly I don't have a gold lined pocket :-( But it is some cover.  Anyway, they're worth giving a go, specially as they specialise in pet insurance.

Hi Pedlee.have you had a claim with the Axa policy,as I have just had a oqute from them at £296 compared to my renewal quote of £699 for my 8 year old with M&S, it has jumped to this from £350 last year.
- By Pedlee Date 22.04.10 07:48 UTC
Hi Vanna, yes I have claimed, a number of times, and it hasn't affected the renewal prices when they've come through. They always settle up pretty promptly as well. I swapped from M&S because of massive increases when it came to renewal time, even though I'm now not able to claim for any ongoing/previous conditions.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.04.10 19:57 UTC
I have to agree, Lifetime cover has to be a must.
- By vanna [gb] Date 22.04.10 21:10 UTC
Thanks Pedlee, sorry Chris I had missed your reply on making a claim I think I will give them a try.
- By peppe [gb] Date 24.04.10 08:02 UTC
I am changing mine as Animal friends put up their premium and excess had a quick look at Tesco's believe they might do a life time cover.
- By Roxylady Date 24.04.10 17:24 UTC
I changed 2 of mine from Petplan to Axa a few days ago with massive savings, I can't move any of the others as they have ongoing problems that may crop up again and they won't be covered, so I'm stuck with PP for them.
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 24.04.10 19:37 UTC
I've just gone with Petguard for mine - slightly cheaper than AXA and only £60 excess rather than £75
- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 24.04.10 19:56 UTC

> only £60 excess rather than £75

Forgot till you  mentioned excess, my AXA excess is only £50.
Chris
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 24.04.10 20:24 UTC
That must have changed then as it was definitely £75 when I got a quote 20 mins ago :-(
- By Pedlee Date 25.04.10 08:54 UTC
My excess with AXA is also £50.

Just looked on link and they do mention choice of excess but £50 still appears to be an option.

I just got a quote from AXA and it was £75 excess
- By vanna [gb] Date 25.04.10 21:02 UTC
I have taken out the AXA policy and mine is £75 exess, still much better than M&S
- By Pedlee Date 26.04.10 07:27 UTC
It does say on their website "Choice of excess", although I couldn't see anywhere to change it (maybe at payment stage?)! My 5 dogs are all insured with them and I definitely have a £50 excess.
- By Bullmastifflove [gb] Date 26.04.10 12:29 UTC
AXA wont quote me for my breed, have come across this several times with different companies. Had a quote of petguard though and I must say its rather good compared to what I've been getting quote wise.
