Topic Dog Boards / Health / dewclaw pulled off
- By helensdogsz Date 19.04.10 11:28 UTC
one of my girls has managed to pull her dew claw off this morning. I saw the blood on her leg and when I looked it was just hanging on by a thread so I pulled it off completely. The bleeding has now stopped and she seems fine. Not limping at all and she would have happily carried on running after her ball but I stopped and came home.
Should I make her rest at all or can she carry on as normal if she wants to? I bathed it and will keep it clean but should I stop taking her for walks for a day or two? She doesn't seem to notice pain, particularly if these is a ball involved so I don't want to do further damage to it and I am pretty sure she would carry on playing ball even if she was in agony.

She wont care less whether it's on or off, but just make sure you keep it clean - when this has happened with one of mine I've put a covering over for when out but remove it at home.
