Has anyone used a furminator on a long coated GSD?

I've used one in the grooming salon. Used correctly (and on the right coats) they can be very good for de-shedding. However they cant be used on matts and tangles, so not a substitue for normal combing and brushing. Certainly get alot of coat out!

Yes and it certainly gets out loads of coat. i am still not convinced that it isn't cutting the hair as it gioes. Now have something similatr bought at discover dogs for £13.00 and prefer it. May just be my imagination though

I just recieved my FURminator this morning that I got off ebay for £8.95 (bargain). I have a white long haired German shepherd and this brush got loads of hair out. The blade does not cut the hair at all, it actually encourages the natural oils to make the top coat shiny but pulling out the dead loose undercoat. I think it is a fantastic item and will be recomending it to all my friends.

Bought one online for my golden retriever, was very cautious 'cos it looked kind of sharp, read the instruction how to use that thing as I didn't want to make my dog bald or hurt him.
It worked pretty well, actually. I combed out tons of hair and was satisfied with the final result. I think it does cut the hair a bit (in my opinion), but using it once in one or two weeks won't do any harm to the coat.
Definetely worth having it in your inventory.

I think it definitely cuts the coat, I tested by brushing an area of coat with usual grooming brush until I was certain there was not a loose hair and when I swooped over with furminator, a clump of hair appeared by magic!!
