Wondered if anyone can help.
A friend has a Westie bitch in pup who sounds like she has kennel cough, although the vet says different!
The question is can you give her benylin?
many thanks
I don't know is the answer but this happened to me with my girl. I gave her Garlic & Fenugreek from Dorwest and a good dollop of Manuka honey. I know that the cough medicine that Ainsworths do is suitable.
Hope the dog is feeling better soon.
Thanks for that, do you put the honey on their dinner?
I've had kennel cough before and give half a teaspoon of benylin. None of my bitches have been pregnant so I was unsure if it could be given.

I use red benylin but I believe that regulations have changed and now pharmacies are not allowed to sell particular cough medicines for children aged under 6 as a chesty cough could be a sign of a chest infection. Apparently, in order to get them you have to go to the GP and get a prescription. I still have an old bottle left but will be stuck when that runs out or goes out of date.

I give my old girl Benylin because she has Bronchitis but I wouldnt give it to a pregnant bitch without speaking to my Vet first.
If he's said it was ok, for a dog of that size, i'd probably go for the childrens non drowsy one rather than one of the adult ones.
Yes Muddlepup I do put honey on their dinner along with a dollop of natural yoghurt; I try to mix it in as mine have beards and it can be very messy when they wipe themselves along the hall wall!!
quick question with regards to the honey how much do you give?
I just give a heaped teaspoon of honey. I use Manuka as it's meant to be very good for it's healing properties, very expensive £13 a jar but any honey will have the same soothing effect. If it's a bit stiff use a teaspoon that has been standing in boiling water to scoop it out.
Many thanks for all your help I'll pass your comments on.
Oh got in trouble as I didnt ask how often you give the honey?!!!!
Hi Muddlepup, I am not saying I'm right, but this is what works for me. If they are "normal" (whatever that is!!) I give 2 - 3 times per week. If they are having a cough or are just after a show (as a precaution) I up the garlic & Fenugreek and then give honey at both meals for about 3 days.
One of mine will take it off the spoon, the other 3 you have to disguise it in the food.
