Can anyone advise about the implications of missing a breed class if taking part in a Junior handling or YKC stakes class?

The schedule says that "DOGS MUST be entered in a breed class first where such a class is provided."

At LKA, we managed to start off in the junior handling, the breed class was called so we dashed out (Stewards permission) did the class and got back before the final line up as the class was soo big.  We might not be so lucky at a couple of YKC qualifiers coming up where I can see the potential for another clash. Plus dog and daughter were too flustered to show properley in either class with the mad dash!

So if we decide that the YKC is our priority and stick with that class but then the breed class comes and goes and can't be held, will she be penalised for not being IN the breed class.  (The dog has been entered).  At least a couple of shows coming up have the YKC classes starting about 30 mins before the breeds but big entries could mean it's a close call.

And on a slightly seperate note, having missed the breed class, can he still go in any stakes that he might be entered in..

rule F(1)9j says a dog is not eligible for entry in variety classes(exculding AVNSC classes) unless also entered & subsequently exhibited in a breed class where such a class is provided for which it is eligible. Exemptions are ..number 8 a dog in YKC Stakes classes.
So this means you can enter your dog just for the YKC & no eed to enter in breed class.

If you want to enter the breed class, a YKC & a stakes with the same dog then if you miss/withdraw from your breed class you can not compete futher at that show (rule F(1)20c)

I don't think the Junior handling is catered for...it is unusual that folk would want to miss a breed class/rather go in a YKC/JH class.

Having done JH & YKC in my youth, I never missed a breed class & lucky enough to not miss a JH/YKC class either(although did have to run to one or the other!!)

Our problem is that we are doing the junior handling with a puppy dog so he's likely to be an early call in the breed BUT as much as I'd like him to qualify in breed, statistically we have slightly more chance of getting daughter qualified in her handling.  If it were a Richmond qualifier there would be no competition and the breed class would take priority.  I am not so bothered about missing the YKC stakes class.

Like Lexy, so far we haven't missed one as usually handling gets called later in the day and we're often in early.  Another few weeks and we'll be out of puppy and into Junior which will buy an extra chunk of time before the breed in.

Looks like "Entered" does mean "entered and exhibited" and therefore assume that if she had been placed and qualified in the earlier handling class, but because she's in the handling ring she misses the breed, she would then be stripped of that place?

I think for you to be absolutely sure it might be best to ask the KC. I don't think the Junior Handling would be a problem but the YKC might??

I've put it on the YKC forum now too.  If she has to miss the class it will be a shame but not the end of the world, although in this case it's the reason we are entered the show!

I'll email the KC too though, thx
