Ok, well I have read up on this from various sites and its still going over my head! so would be grateful if someone could tell me in the simplest terms possible! (i know it is quite comprehensive and also colour is the least important thing, but i would still like an idea of what i would get!)

My bitch is a black and white, her dam was a tri and sire a b&w. so.... what colours are possible from a mating to the following..

B&W?

Tri?

red & white?

Merle?

Thankyou!

Thankyou!!

If your bitch is KC registered then she will, more than likely, be on the anadune web site. A fabulous site that tells you all about coat colours and what colours are carried by your line.  It has ISDS registered dogs also, but I'm pretty sure that the data is coming from the KC source, as my ISDS litter I added on myself.

If your bitch is on, you can do a test mating ... putting in the name of a dog you like the look of. This will bring up all the possible coat colours that will appear in a litter, together with whether smooth, rough, etc.  There's a section that tells you about the coat colours and which are dominant/recessive.
You can also look through a 5-generation pedigree to see where the coat colours are coming through from - can do all the genetics on this too.  Well worth a look.

A really good site.  You do have to register to use the database but that only takes a few days via e-mail. The coat colours and general info you can see without registering.

This is another good site explaining about the colours:

The above are really easy to understand and have pictures ... pictures also help!!

This one's a bit more technical, I'm not so familiar with this site, but the glances I've had it seems quite useful:

Happy reading

Edit: oops, just spotted where you're based, so your dog might not be KC registered ... though the father of 1 of mine now lives in Germany and is KC reg!!  It's an American based site, so it's border collies worldwide.  I've just been guessing at where they get their info!

thankyou!

She is isds lines through and through, so not sure whether anadune will be any good but will def register and have a look and also look at those other sites.

I'm sure she will be on, but if not you can add her on - just make sure you get all the info absolutely correct, nowt worse with a database than wrong info going on.

All my dogs are ISDS, only 3 were KC reg - they were on the database when I discovered it ... but the litter of my young male I added myself - probably just a lot quicker than they would be put on anyway.  Their mother was just ISDS lines and all their ancestors miraculously came up.

If you want me to check if she's on whilst you're waiting to register, if you private message me her full kennel name and ISDS number I can check and let you know :-)

Sorry, the coat colours on the anadune site are only accessible once you've logged into the Border Collie Database :-( ... you'll have to wait!
