Hi guys,
Just a quick question... I have two shows this week but none of the cheques for my entries have been cashed in, are they quite slow to do this or do you think there is another problem?
I have emailed the show secretary but had no replies!

Sometimes societies wait until a few days before the show or jsut after to bank the cheques.
However most will bank i believe a week or so before the show.
Perhaps if you gave the secretary a ring ??
On another thought, what we gonna do when the cheques are gone for good ?
That is a good point!! I have entered on Fossdata which is very easy to do! Wish all shows could be done this way but Im thinking it is probably more of a cost to the organisers of the show to do so?

I have had cheques for shows not come out for 2 weeks after a show, but mainly they are 1-2 weeks before.
Did you get a proof of postage?
> more of a cost to the organisers of the show to do so?
Yes small clubs it can work out very costly doing online entries, I think the KC(not sure who exactly) will some how have to find a way for people who do not have computers to enter by post, postal orders or possibly card details on the entry form?

Someone told me the other week when we were discussing show entries and cheques that they are doing away with postal orders too!
>possibly card details on the entry form?
No way would I risk information like that in the post!
I would never send my card details through the post!!!! I see fraud all the time in the place were i work, its madness.

I have seen it on entry forms before but never actually used it myself.............toooooooo much information (including signature) on 1 piece of paper!
So if they are doing away with postal orders & people refuse to put card details down.........what will they do?
Pay on arrival? But then people that randomly don't turn up etc etc will be another loss to the club.
What about Paypal?! I love Paypal!

Ah but what about those who aren't online
VERY good point!! But i think most people are online, if not know someone who is?
I wonder what they are going to do though?! Cheques are so easy. Are they actually stopping cheques altogether?!
> But i think most people are online
I guess most are online but not ALL and not all know someone who is & plus that could just become daft having to pop round some ones to always do any entry.
As far as I understand it yes cheques are going to be gone forever!

Bank transfer is a secure method.
Then going into a bank and paying in the money is the only way?

I also show rabbits and we phone up the club sec to give our entries, pay on the day when we turn up at the show however the governing body has a rule that you must pay your entry fees even if you cannot get to the show and most folk would then put a cheque in the post. If there are no cheques, it would be a fair bit of extra work to chase up folk who haven't paid at subsequent shows and there's not that many rabbit exhibitors in Scotland compared to dog exhibitors!

postal orders but there is a small fee to purchase them.

I was told that postal orders are going to become obsolete too.
The only shows where the cheques weren't cashed before the actual show was my breed clubs, all the open shows we've ever entered have always come out before, i'd definitely keep trying the secretaries especially if you have a long way to go
Good luck!

According to the BBC news:
Cheques will be phased out by October 2018, but only if adequate alternatives are developed, the body that oversees payments strategy has said.

I'm treasurer for our breed club in Scotland and I can only bank when the secretary passes cheques etc on to me. This is usually at the show for which the cheques have been sent or for membership cheques etc usually get them a comittee meetings.
There aren't many online options that are cheap or free to use. Bank payment either over the internet or over the counter would be managable by most folk.

I can only echo this.
When I was a sec of a breed club, the treasurer had the cheques for show entries, at a committee meeting around 2 weeks before the actual show. Any cheques recieved at other times were normally sent.
