ok so a freind of mine has asked if an undershot jaw in a puppy will get worse or stay the same.i have no idea i assumed it would always be the same but said id ask on here.shes been back to view the litter and the puppy she picked out at 3 weeks has now an undershot jaw.poor woman is so upset as she was going to show this puppy, any advise.x

Undershot is likely to get worse rather than better. Overshot can improve slightly. If she wants a show puppy she should choose another.

Upper and lower jaws grow at different rates, so the full picture won't be shown until pup has finished growing.

However, the majority of breeds, if undershot as pups, get worse, not better.

If she genuinely wants a show dog, she should really pass on this one.  However, I'm amazed that the pup was picked out at 3 weeks!  I won't let anyone on my reserve list see pups that young.

I don't know any breeder who could choose a puppy as having definite show potential at 3 weeks, we all look at them from the word go and can tell if they have nice head shape, compact bodies etc, but i know no-one who would be choosing with showing in mind until 6 -m 8 weeks of age.

I can usually say which ones I won't be choosing at 5 weeks, but not which I want to keep.

Tamara, there's no way that even the most experienced breeder could choose a show potential puppy at 3 weeks, so I'd be wary of a breeder who suggested an owner did that. :(

There is no guaranteeing a dogs bit will be right until the adult teeth have settled at about 9 months, but at the very least you would want the pup to have a correct bite with it's baby teeth at 8 weeks.
