Can anyone help,
I have never been to a show with my dogs before, but i really would like to do one, just like a companion show or somethin small, but i dont have the 1st idea where to start.

What do I need to do?
how do I find out about shows?
What is it like doing your 1st show?

Any advise fromyou would really help to get me going!

Thankx :)

Hi bradleyboo1,

What area do you live in?
Because someone might be able to tell you were a ring craft club is, they will answer all your questions

Have you been to a dog show without a dog?  Sorry, sounds daft I know but visiting without a dog is a good way to get a sense of what goes on.

An Open Show would be a good place to start with a dog but if you are visiting on your own then a Championship Show in good weather is a nice day out.  Some of these shows are in great locations and there are usually some good stalls selling doggy things.  WELKS is coming up soon and that's held at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern - a lovely location.  Have a look at these sites to see what shows are coming up:  Fosse, Higham, Penney Pine

I found my breeder was the best source of advice about showing, and ringcraft but I also read these books which explained the types of shows, types of class and dog showing terminology. Robert Killick - Dog Showing, From Beginners to Winners: Juliette Cunliffe - Showing Dogs, The Exhibitors Guide.  You can probably get your library to order either of these two to save spending money, although you'll soon find dog showing is pretty expensive (never add up your mileage!!)

Good luck :)

Although this is a Gundog show, and gundogs might not be your breed, the show isn't too far from you and is an Open so it'll give you an idea of what shows are about and likely to be more schedules there as well as people with some knowledge of ring crafts local to you  Shropshire gundog http://www.arenaprint.co.uk/schedules/SGSsched0510.pdf

WELKs isn't too far from you either and will give you an idea about championship shows.

Stafford county showground isn't far from you I don't think? They often have some open shows there, I've been to a few
