Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Saliva Ovulation Tester

Could anyone tell me where the best place is to get a Saliva Ovulation Tester currently? I would like to get my hands on one to use as a double check on ovulation days.

I used an Ovatel, it's for humans, but is exactly the same as the canine ones. I got it off ebay. I found it difficult to get enough saliva as I don't have a breed that drools.

Thanks Liz.

I did look at these but wondered how easy it would be to "simply place a small amount of saliva on the reverse of the eye piece" as per the instructions. I would guess this would be difficult when getting it from a dogs mouth? I have labradors so it is quite easy to get the saliva (if they watch me preparing a meal). I guess I would just have to use something sterile to transfer the saliva onto the eye piece?

The way I do it is to get a tasty treat such as cooked sausage then sit with it in front of the dog and they drool, lift the lip and run the microscope along, you get plenty of saliva then leave for a hour or more to completely dry before examining....oh and of course give them the treat!!!

Posters have, in the past, said they've got these type of testers cheap at chemists ... I've tried, but no chemist near me ever seems to sell anything useful cheap.  Have been thinking of experimenting with one of these myself ... currently trying out ovulation test pads.

Might just have a look on tinternet then, ta.  Don't want to spend a fortune though ... got a microscope somewhere at home, just need some slides. Now wonder where that microscope went ....

I use my microscope, I have one that plugs into my computer so can see the results on screen, slides are really cheap from ebay.

Ah now Sharon that might just be getting a bit too technical for me! I like the idea though.
