My bitch is on day 56 from first mating and 54 from last.  She is a toy breed and has a big tummy with really enlarged salmon pink nipples so pretty certain there is something in there.  However, I haven't as yet felt any definite movement.  I've felt what I think is movement but not definitely, not like last time when the little devils one night were kicking away, although this was only five days before they arrived six days early.  What is the latest you should be able to feel definite movement?  I am as always stressing a bit - can't help it - but once things get underway I will calm down.  It's just this watching and waiting that gets me.  Any comments appreciated.

Thank you.

could be that your girl is full of pups ? is she bigger than last time ? i found that when my girl (large breed) only had 4 pups i could feel them from about day 52 ,i had a girl here and couldnt feel any pups till about 8 days before and she had 8 ,and 6 of them were in 1 horn so the more there is the less moving they can do ,good luck sheltpap hope all goes well for your girlx

Yes, she is a lot bigger than last time and she had four then (one sadly stillborn) which is a fairly large litter for the breed.  Hopefully that's the reason then, I suppose it does make sense.  Hopefully she won't have too many though as the most I have ever heard anyone having is six.  Thought she was probably bigger this time because as she'd already had a litter her muscles were not as tight.

I couldn't feel Ellie's 2 pups at all, but I could hear heartbeats - so cute!

I've had girls with litters from two to four and not felt much movement till the last few days.
Look forward to reading about your girl and her pups when they put in an apprearance.

Thank you for the reassurances everyone.  Everything's ready and I am getting excited but will be very glad when they have arrived safe and sound.

Same as Abbypap, mine often don't let me feel movement until the last minute (toy breed.)

One year I had a girl with what felt like one pup, and, right up to the day before whelping, that is what I expected.

The night before, her tummy moved in absolute waves, it was amazing to watch.  The second pup moved down from under the ribcage, and although I hadn't felt a lot of movement, whelping went just fine.  :-)

white lilly  how do you know 6 of your puppies where from one horn, it would be interesting to know ?  thank you

You can see quite clearly on a scan which pups are in which horn.

yes as jeanSW we saw the pups on the scan all line up in 1 horn :)

thanks for reply, my vet told me my bitch was having 1 pup and she had 9, so no chance of him telling me which horn they were in.  maybe next time.

Hi, I started to feel movement a few days ago, mostly when she is laid on my knee and we are on day 50 today. Not definate kicks but a fluttering/rippling. I bet what your feeling is similar Sheltrap...it's such a worrying time. Good luck for safe delivery x

Following on from my previous post on not being able to feel movement.  I am pleased to say that my girl whelped overnight and has three adorable babies.  I was still not convinced she had anything right up until she went into labour as I couldn't feel anything at all.
