Just wanted some moral support really please dont question my vets they were brilliant
Taryn gave birth to one baby and then stopped she was huge so I took her to the vets. It was early saturday and we all decided a section was the best way. My beautiful baby jumped off through the door with the vet I never even said good bye just that I'd see her in a minute.
We heard babies making alot of noise and eventually the vet came out and said 12 babies but one is not good. We had a problem Taryns heart stopped and we tried for 20 minutes but couldnt restart it. My whole world stopped.
I know I have to raise the babies but I cant stop crying and just cant cope with all this

Has anyone else been through this and how did u cope.
I have th eother dogs here and they are all so stressed cos they know their mum is so sad. It also breaks my heart to watch them look for her.

I am so extremely sorry -this is such a tragedy. Good luck with the puppies. Maybe you can ask around breeders in your breed if anyone has a bitch that could foster at least a few of them?
- By Justine [gb] Date 05.04.10 09:11 UTC
Oh no this is awful :(  I'm so sorry for your loss, what a terrible shock for you.

We send you a big hug and wish you all the very best with your pups. xx

Heartbreaking for you - it is every owner/breeder's nightmare.   Do hope you can manage to find a foster mother to help out.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and what a massive shock.
- By fifi [gb] Date 05.04.10 09:23 UTC
I went through this about 20 years ago and its still breaks my heart thinking about my girl, same thing but her heart stopped as soon as they gave her the anaesthetic, they tried so long to save her (they knew thats what I would have wanted) that I lost all the pups as well.  It took me 18 years before I could mate another bitch and when I did I cried the whole way back home after the matings because I couldn't face it if anything happened to this one.  Since then  I have had 2 fantastic litters where everything has gone excatly as it should have.  Like all losses of people/animals you love you don't really get over it but you learn to live with it.  And although your next 8 weeks are going to be the most exausting you prob have you will have a memory of her in her puppies.  Chin up and think of the future of the puppies, it will get you through x

My goodness what an awful tragedy.im soo soo very sorry to be reading this iv also tears in my eyes reading this.

ive sat here typing and then deleting as i know nothing of what to say to you accept im soo sorry:-(

If you have twelve puppies there with you maybe like someone has already suggested maybe find a surrogate for some of the puppies just to help you as i really think twelve is going to exaust you and plus the emtions you have right now crying wears you out even without puppies to nurse.if not you must know somene who will help you raise them.

oh now im rambling all i can say is my thoughts are with you right now i whole heartedly feel for you.

So very sorry for your loss, what a terrible thing to happen x
- By mountaindreams [gb] Date 05.04.10 10:16 UTC
I have a friend taking over the puppy buyers but everyone I know lives hundreds of miles away so on my own.
After losing my oldest girl in Sept 2009 her daughter who has pseudomonas went into a depression and I got her to attach herself to Taryn and this helped her to enjoy life again. She is still ill and yesterday she started looking for Taryn, already the stress has set the inprovement in her health backwards. She is constantly coughing and is so sad. She just wanted to be held last night which was good as all I wanted to do was bury myself in her fur and pretend it was a cruel joke or a nightmare. I dont want to sleep because I know when I wake up I will have to admit it isn't either of those and that this is real. I know I have to carry on but I am angry, gutted, in disbelieve and so scared right now and just want to go to sleep and not wake up.

More questions

I have hand reared a litter before for different reasons but I have advent bottles with newborn teats some of the puppies are causing the teat to go into itself is this cos the milk is not fast enough for some of them and it is the strenght of their sucking.

Also my other girl is eating arden grange prestiage as much as she wants, fruit and veg and chicken wings but last night she was wobbling and so called vet and have got calcium tabs for her and will be careful. The last thing I want is for something to happen to her and lose another dog. Is there anything else maybe I should be adding into her diet to help her with all I am asking of her.
- By annastasia [gb] Date 05.04.10 11:13 UTC
OMG im so so sorry to hear this how awful, it is every breeders dread for this to happen, hope all the babies pull through, you have a very special litter here, good luck, hugz to you. no one can blame your vet she did her best, our vet couldnt save our male to torsion last year she was heartbroke.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.04.10 11:18 UTC
I am so sorry for your loss, but we will put that aside for now.

To be honest you need to hold off on the grieving and concentrate all your efforts into her puppies for whom she gave her life.

the best thing would be to get a foster mother, so contact the vets and get the word out with your breed contacts.

rearing such a  large litter with feeding every two hours is a full time job, so get people in organised to either help with that or to help run the rest of your responsibilities so you can concentrate on the babies.

Are any of the other dogs maternal, as often even if they cannot feed and another bitch will mother the puppies which will be a  great help.

So very sorry for your loss.

Have never bred before but I know with human babies that when the teat creates a vacuum it's because it needs some air - try tipping the teat sideways now and again as they are feeding to slightly break the seal of the pup's mouth around the teat which will let a little air in and thus stop the teat turning inside out. You don't take the teat out of the pup's mouth just sort of tilt it sideways momentarily and you will see air bubbles going up through the milk in the teat.

- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 05.04.10 12:24 UTC
So sorry, how heartbreaking for you.
- By mountaindreams [gb] Date 05.04.10 12:24 UTC
Brainless I have another bitch here to help but she has her own 8 babies as well but she is sitting with them and feeding a little. I also have a bitch here who just loves pups so she is going in to sit with them.

I will raise these puppies for Taryn even through the pain and dispair I feel right now. Like I said a friend has taken over the waiting list so I am not having to deal with talking to people.

Thanks for all the support havent been on here for ages but know everyone here loves their dogs.
- By annee [gb] Date 05.04.10 12:28 UTC
Labcrazy...can i ask you where you live ?

not had this experience myself but my dear friend did a few years ago......hand reared the pups, and they were all fine. good luck with it all.
- By Carrington Date 05.04.10 19:01 UTC
You poor, poor lady, how dreadful. I am so sorry.

You have such a large litter to raise, I hope that you have lots and lots of help to feed the pups during the night etc, have you got any neighbours who would be willing to help or nieces who can stay with you to help feed the pups? Don't try to do it all by yourself a few days in you will be so drained and no good to anyone.

Also try not to over burden your other bitch with feeding the pups one feed on one feed off, she will produce so much milk in feeding all those mouths it could well bring on problems for her something that you don't want. I'm glad that the pups have two other bitches to bond with and socialise with as they grow at least they do have that.

You must be so devastated, please look for and take help, if you get ill and drained the pups will have no-one. Once again so very sorry.
- By Fate [gb] Date 05.04.10 19:53 UTC
Wishing you all the best in a dreadful situation, I'm sure your vet did all they could and it was just one of those things. Hope the babies do well, I'm sure all the hard work you have ahead of you will be worth it, at least it will give you a focus to get you through your terrible loss.
- By JeanSW Date 05.04.10 20:16 UTC
How tragic.  I feel for you so deeply.  I am so very sorry.  {{{{ HUGS  }}}}
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 05.04.10 20:41 UTC
Hello labcrazy1, all I can say is try to hold on, don't even try to imagine the next few weeks--just take it hour by hour and get as much rest as you can in a power napping kind of way...I am so sorry that you have all this to cope with on top of your grief for Taryn and judging from the responses here if we could teleport ourselves you'd have a small army of helpers. I hope you have a neighbour or two who can assist. Big hugs, a better day will come xxx
- By mountaindreams [gb] Date 06.04.10 06:13 UTC
well we have got through another night it is getting quicker to feed them as most have now caught onto what the bottle is. Managed to get an hours sleep last night and that will help in all ways physically, mentally and emotionally.
My other girl is going into clean them so that makes it quicker too although she still wont feed them but any help is wonderful.
Through champdogs I have also been offered help by Topsy who is going to come over tonight and help she lives about an hour from us.

So on with today.

Thanks to everyone for their support means the world to me.
- By cornishmals [gb] Date 06.04.10 06:53 UTC

Terrible news, Fingers crossed you can get most of this litter to survive and their is something nice to carry on from. Good luck.
- By Carrington Date 06.04.10 12:43 UTC
Through champdogs I have also been offered help by Topsy who is going to come over tonight and help she lives about an hour from us.

Glad all is going well, bless you Topsy, really kind of you. :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 06.04.10 16:55 UTC
Well if the other bitch is helping that will be great for the necessary maternal canine input, and cleaning them is so much more efficient when a bitch does it.

Hope you can get a bit more human help.
- By Topsy Date 06.04.10 17:00 UTC
Unfortunately I worked out that I live more like an hour and a half away, so a 3 hour round trip regretably makes it unfeasable.
I've sent details of local vets and a rescue and am trying to find other people closer who might be able to help or know someone who can.  Wish I lived nearer.
- By Tenaj [gb] Date 06.04.10 19:29 UTC
Really sorry. Heartbreaking. Thinking of you, and good luck with the pups.
- By mountaindreams [gb] Date 08.04.10 17:36 UTC
Think one of the pups is dying he is very weak but still feeding at present. Vet says see how it goes.
Got Taryn's ashes back today so she is home with us now.

- By mountaindreams [gb] Date 08.04.10 20:01 UTC
Have called vets back asked for house call n just been told too far out and that it prob fading puppy and just to let it go overnight. I said I wanted vet out and they said no I said are you willing to let a pup scream like that and he said not really a welfare issue but could bring them to surgery. I replied I couldnt I have 10 other pups who feed hourly and it a 2 hr round trip, he said they couldnt come out at which point I lost it and said well if I had her mum it wouldnt be a problem would it....couldnt help it so stressed and depressed and then had to put phone down as I burst into tears.
20 minutes later phone went and it the vet saying they will do a house call.....funny that..............it might be a long way I understand that but in these circumstances where I lost the mum at their surgery I think they have to make an effort...Their lives didnt fall apart on Saturday when Taryn died mine did.

:( Im sorry to read about little Henry labcrazy.  If my bitch had had her pups already I'd have gladly tried to foster some of the pups, even if it only meant taking a few, if it had helped.

We're all routing for you and babies of course and you are doing an admirable job.

RIP little Henry xxx
