OMG What incompetent handlers. I can't believe they could be so stupid and unprofessional.
And the fine was peanuts. They should be closed down and not allowed to practise dog grooming ever again.

That's just awfull :( :( :(
It's not the first that I've heard about. :( Another reason for groomers being taught properly.........
I'm disgusted with the pitiful fine they had, those two ladies should never be allowed to operate a grooming parlour again. That poor dog dropped off by it's owner to be strangled by two women whilst scared to death. If that were a child in a hairdresser it would be manslaughter. If that had been my dog I would be inconsolable, they would never work with animals again.
Poor, poor dog what a horrible death.
omg thats terrible, poor little dog. How can you strangle a dog and not realise you are doing it. My shih tzu goes to the groomers and thats the last thing you expect to happen.

Poor little thing :-(

omg unbeliveable the poor baby , how on earth can you work on a dog while it is being strangled to death and not know ?
If it were mine I would want them strung up, but certainly never to work with animals again such a paultry punishment
By contrast the lady who sold a goldfish to an under 16 year old was fined £1000 and given an asbo and tagged curfewed (of course everyone knows she creeps around after dark selling animals!) her son was also fined a few hundred pounds as he co-owned the pet shop , how does our justice system work
I would be pushing for more punishment then that!!!
Thats a shockingly bad reprimand for such a terrible crime :-(
Why didnt they just stop cutting?!!!
When I started grooming almost 30 years ago, a local groomer used to put the dogs' heads in a metal clamp to restrain them! My local Vet rang me and said that he was treating it for wounds to the side of its head and would I trim it in the future.
I've known a 'tutor' at a general college send a wet dog home because they can't manage to dry it! Another 'tutor' send a dog home with one side clipped and the other side long because they couldn't handle the dog. And these people are teaching newbies! I could tell loads of stories, which is why I constantly bang on about getting the right sort of grooming training...... :(

I trained by working in a grooming salon, and learnt a lot more about 'real life' grooming than I would in a college with model dogs. I've seen so many dogs come in traumatised by previous experiences. One poor cocker had huge scars on its head and back from being burn and having its head split open with hot clipper blades. The owner is partially sighted so did not realise until she had left, the groomer didnt say a word.
I've groomed some awfully behaved dogs (and yes I have threatened to super glue feet to the table at times) but there is more skill to grooming than waving a pair of clippers near a dog. Two day courses dont teach you how to handle a dog in a safe, effective way.

Hear hear!
I groom one that was burned and blistered under the tail by an incompetent groomer, blades would have been so hot to do that

It took a year for any coat to grow back :( It only takes a second to check the temperature of the blades as your working and swap them
before they become too warm.
Those groomers should never be allowed near a dog again.

I imagine thier business will close. How awful for the poor owner .. RIP little one.

Absolutely awful!!! Poor animal.
Makes me extremely cross.
And here
I am, well trained, hard working, ethical, caring and struggling to find a good grooming salon to work in or set up my own mobile business.
In a business that is unregulated and frankly very shonky from what I've experienced here in Australia!!!

This groomers is about 20 mins from where I live and in our local paper it said the dog died from a heart attack , caused by excessive panting.

from being strangled?
All it says is that he got distressed while being groomed , starting panting excessively and then had a heart attack.
That's very different to being strangled. All sorts of possibilities. Old, overweight, matted dog, weak heart, not used to being groomed, handled and therefore stressed......... Without knowledge and experience, it's not always easy to know when to stop. :(
I don't suppose anyone but the groomers will know what really happened so its difficult to comment, but if the dog died of a heart attack then thats a different matter altogether than being strangled.Years ago when I was working for another groomer, the assistant was drying a dog and it suddenly died of a heart attack with no warning at all,no signs of being stressed at all,it just suddenly died,it was a horrible incident but unforseeable. So while its possible that the dog was highly stressed and they just held it and carried on(totally unforgiveable and something no decent groomer would do) it could just have been an accident-the dog could have had heart problems anyway. One of my friend's dogs(relatively young) died of a heart attack on a walk.

He was only six months old , so surely there wouldn't be that much to groom unless of course his coat was in bad condition and needed a lot of work?

That's terrible! I've done some awkward dogs in my time, and if the dog was freaking out that much that 2 people couldn't control him, they should have stopped and let him calm down before continuing. Even if this tragedy hadn't happened, that dog would have been traumatised and been difficult to groom after an experience like that! :-(

Idiots, absolute idiots. They should never go near an animal again. He died from a cardiac arrest after being strangled. That makes me mad.

hi all
so sorry to hear about this poor little dog rip little one.
they should had been band for life never to work with an animals again.
im a dog groomer / animal behavourist , never would cause any harm to an animal they should have stoped ,when i was at collage they taught us how to help animal that where frienghtend . we are surposed to help nervous / frieghtened /aggressive/ ect dogs,
xx
I've always found that confidence and firmness, not brute force, is the way to reassure nervous dogs. In 20+ years of grooming, I have never had a dog that I couldn't bath, dry and trim single handed. :(
I saw this in the paper yesterday, I just wanted to cry! How would the owners of the dog felt when they came back to collect it? The place should be shut down!
Poor little dog. That's why, no matter how big or tiny is a dog, we never should use force. Oh my, I wish some people understood this.
