Topic Dog Boards / General / Ahem, where do they find these people?
- By Otterhound Date 31.03.10 17:27 UTC
I took one of the rescues to the vet this morning for neuter. And was amazed to see that they now have a male vet nurse, fully qualified and fresh from college..?

I started to fill in the standard form for an operation and then said to the vet nurse: "Oh, please tell Gr*** (the vet) that he is a cryptorchid or will I put it down on the form?" and he said:

.....

......

"No, his breed doesn't matter!"

WHERE do they find those people???

Did he get his qualification papers by doing online courses?!
Oh my, I think I was 13 when I first heard and memorised the meaning of the word "cryptorchism"...
It's sad and outrageous that such people work as doctors/nurses without appropriate knowledge.

I guess it depends on what a vet nurse is taught on the course, a vet yes, you would be dumbfounded if they did not know what that meant, but maybe it is just not in the field of the training????????????

Surely he was joking!
- By Otterhound Date 31.03.10 19:43 UTC
No, he wasn't as was quite clear from the conversation that followed..

Scary stuff!

Perhaps he wasn't actually a qualified VN, if he was it's pretty scary!

I leave alot of money at the vet practise and the old vet nurse had married and moved to County Tipperary, I was told last week that the new one *fresh from college and fully qualified would start this week. I was then formally introduced to him. I did mention it to Grainne when I picked up the dog earlier on and she was just as gobsmacked as myself.

perhaps he misheard you?

Any qualified vn/rvn would know this

Yes it is.  Non moulting I believe.  :-)

Think they sell them on the Pick 'n' Mix at Woolworths.
