Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Raw feeding...... again
- By Bullmastifflove [gb] Date 30.03.10 13:44 UTC
I know this topic pops up regularly, but I have not had much call to pay much interest until now.
I have always given my boys bones, raw eggs, veg etc mostly as treats but tripe and minced meat etc I mix in with their dry food. They wont eat it unless its got meat in, they only have a small amount.
I often wondered about completly raw feeding them but didnt have a stockist of the meat and bits that was in our price range. Until last weekend we happened to pop into a local farm shop, freshly frozen meat in huge quantities and at a very good price. Chicken wings, bones, minced meat the lot.

So where can I get the appropriate information I need to start raw feeding? I obviously want to make sure they get everything they need so any links to even the smallest bits of info would be great.

Thanks all x

The BritBarf site is great - lots of information, lots of knowledgeable members and they welcome people whatever they feed - raw, part raw or kibble fed makes no difference and you won't be shot down in flames if your preferred method of feeding is not raw.

If you become a member of the site ( can take a few days as the Administrator has other things to do as well :-) ) you will be given a link to a Getting Started page which has a huge amount of information on it and all your questions and queries will be very welcome.

Agree with Harley, BritBarf is a great group.

A good book is Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats - The Ultimate Diet by Kymythy R. Schultze, which even gives a diet plan towards the end of it. Very easy to read and understand.

Harley I applied to join this group about 10 days ago.  Apart from an email asking me about myself (which I replied to), there has been no confirmation for me - nothing at all in fact.  Does it normally take this long to be accepted?

It can do unfortunately. The owner of the site does everything himself and it can take a while but is definitely worth the wait. I had noticed that there have been no new member introductions for the past week or so and very few posts made - new members have their initial post moderated at first and the only post notifications  that have been emailed to me last week and this are those made by members who have been around for a while and are no longer on moderation terms.

Derek, the owner, has a few dogs himself and is a very busy person so the delay is probably just his life getting in the way :-) He will respond :-)

It took about the same time when I joined and I agree it is worth the wait.

Many thanks for that info Harley.  Very reassuring anyway, so I will put my patient hat on!  :-)

I will be joining that one then. Looking forward to seeing how the boys look on a raw diet, especially the big one hes on Beta at the moment but he certinally likes his chicken wings and mince more :)

Its a great site but i did find that for any one question asked, many various replies all slightly different came back.  Not a bad thing but it can be a little confusing when first trying out barf diets.  Use it as a guide and to know that not one type of diet works, everyones swears by 'their' type of diet and I am sure that all the others dogs thrive also.  Best thing is you are making the switch - my only regret....... not doing it sooner. Best of luck.
